Simultaneous source technology can accelerate data acquisition and improve subsurface illumination. But those advantages are compromised due to dense interference. To address the intense interference in simultaneous source data, we have investigated a method based on a deep neural network. The designed architecture consists of convolutional and deconvolutional networks. The convolutional network can learn the local features of the training data set, and the deconvolutional network constructs the output using the extracted features to match the ground truth. Because the main computational cost results from the optimization of the network parameters, the trained network can separate simultaneous source data efficiently. Besides, with the given dithering code, we embed the trained network into an iterative framework that can further improve the deblending. A numerical test on synthetic data demonstrates that the iterative framework with the trained network can obtain comparable performance with high efficiency compared to the conventional method. Next, we test our method with two different trained networks (one is from a synthetic data set, and the other is from a field data set) on field data. The test results confirm the performance of our method.

Well logging helps geologists find hidden oil, natural gas and other resources. However, well log data are systematically insufficient because they can only be obtained by drilling, which involves costly and time-consuming field trials. Additionally, missing or distorted well log data are common in old oilfields owing to shutdowns, poor borehole conditions, damaged instruments and so on. As a workaround, pseudo-data can be generated from actual field data. In this study, we propose a spatio-temporal neural network (STNN) algorithm, which is built by leveraging the combined strengths of a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory network (LSTM). The STNN exploits the ability of the CNN to effectively extract features related to pseudo-well log data and the ability of the LSTM to extract the key features from well log data along the depth direction. The STNN method allows full consideration of the well log data trend with depth, the correlation across different log series and the actual depth accumulation effect. The method proved successful in predicting acoustic sonic log data from gamma-ray, density, compensated neutron, formation resistivity and borehole diameter logs. Results show that the proposed method achieves higher prediction accuracy because it takes into account the spatio-temporal information of well logs.

In the early stage of oil and gas exploration, due to the lack of available drilling data, the automatic seismic facies classification technology mainly relies on the unsupervised clustering method combined with the seismic multiattribute. However, the clustering results are unstable and have no clear geologic significance. The supervised classification method based on manual interpretation can provide corresponding geologic significance, but there are still some problems such as the discrete classification results and low accuracy. To solve these problems, inspired by hyperspectral and spatial probability distribution technology, we have developed a classification framework called the probabilistic framework for seismic attributes and spatial classification (PFSSC). It can improve the continuity of the classification results by combining the classification probability and the spatial partial probability of the classifier output. In addition, the convolutional neural network (CNN) is a typical classification algorithm in deep learning. By convolution and pooling, we could use it to extract features of complex nonlinear objects for classification. Taking advantage of the combination of PFSSC and CNN, we could effectively solve the existing problems mentioned above in seismic facies classification. It is worth mentioning that we select seismic the multiattribute by maximal information coefficient (MIC) before the seismic facies classification. Finally, using the CNN-PFSSC and MIC methods, we can obtain high accuracy in the test set, reasonable continuity within the same seismic facies, clear boundaries between different seismic facies, and seismic facies classification results consistent with sedimentological laws.
