Cătălin Buiu was born in 1968 and graduated from the Politehnica University of Bucharest in 1992 with a major in Control Engineering. He holds a double doctorate in Control Engineering and in Natural Sciences (Biology). Since 2004, he has been a Professor in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the same university and is currently Head of both the Laboratory of Natural Computing and Robotics and the Laboratory for Applied Cognitive Robotics in Medicine. He works at the interface of biological sciences, engineering, and robotics, with the goal of developing a greater understanding of biological information processing and the creation of intelligent computational systems. Lately, his interests have included deep learning techniques.
