Dr. Sofija Bekić is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Sciences, Serbia. She obtained her BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Novi Sad, where her doctoral research focused on the development of biological assays for the identification of steroid receptor ligands and the evaluation of steroidogenic enzyme activity. Dr. Bekić has more than ten years of experience in experimental biochemistry and drug discovery research. Her work is focused on the development and application of bioassays using recombinant proteins expressed in yeast and bacterial systems, with particular emphasis on protein-ligand interactions, steroid hormone receptors, steroid-metabolizing enzymes, and the biological evaluation of synthetic steroid derivatives and natural fungal and plant extracts with potential anticancer activity. She has authored 22 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and has participated in numerous national and international research projects. She serves as a reviewer for several leading journals in medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Dr. Bekić is an active member of the Serbian Biochemical Society, the Serbian Association for Cancer Research, and the European Society of Endocrinology. Her research aims to advance the discovery and mechanistic characterization of novel bioactive compounds for cancer-related and endocrine targets.
