Post-surgical treatments of the human throat often require continuous monitoring of diverse vital and muscle activities. However, wireless, continuous monitoring and analysis of these activities directly from the throat skin have not been developed. Here, we report the design and validation of a fully integrated standalone stretchable device platform that provides wireless measurements and machine learning-based analysis of diverse vibrations and muscle electrical activities from the throat. We demonstrate that the modified composite hydrogel with low contact impedance and reduced adhesion provides high-quality long-term monitoring of local muscle electrical signals. We show that the integrated triaxial broad-band accelerometer also measures large body movements and subtle physiological activities/vibrations. We find that the combined data processed by a 2D-like sequential feature extractor with fully connected neurons facilitates the classification of various motion/speech features at a high accuracy of over 90%, which adapts to the data with noise from motion artifacts or the data from new human subjects. The resulting standalone stretchable device with wireless monitoring and machine learning-based processing capabilities paves the way to design and apply wearable skin-interfaced systems for the remote monitoring and treatment evaluation of various diseases.

Evaporation and explosive boiling of ultra-thin liquid film are of great significant fundamental importance for both science and engineering applications. The evaporation and explosive boiling of ultra-thin liquid film absorbed on an aluminum nanostructure solid wall are investigated by means of molecular dynamics simulations. The simulated system consists of three regions: liquid argon, vapor argon, and an aluminum substrate decorated with nanostructures of different heights. Those simulations begin with an initial configuration for the complex liquid-vapor-solid system, followed by an equilibrating system at 90 K, and conclude with two different jump temperatures, including 150 and 310 K which are far beyond the critical temperature. The space and time dependences of temperature, pressure, density number, and net evaporation rate are monitored to investigate the phase transition process on a flat surface with and without nanostructures. The simulation results reveal that the nanostructures are of great help to raise the heat transfer efficiency and that evaporation rate increases with the nanostructures’ height in a certain range.

Wettability, as one of the important properties of solid surface, may influence heat and mass transfer in boiling process. Molecular dynamics method is employed to investigate the effects of wettability on normal and explosive boiling of ultra‐thin liquid argon film absorbed on a heated solid aluminium surface in a confined space in present work. The initial three‐phase molecular system is comprised of solid aluminium wall, liquid argon and vapour argon and is run for three different solid–liquid interfacial wettability (lyophilic, lyophobic and neutral surfaces), which achieves a balance at 90 K. After equilibrium period, two different jump temperatures degree, 150 and 350 K, are set on heat source layers separately to characterise the boiling phenomena, namely, low‐temperature degree for normal boiling and high‐temperature degree for explosive boiling in which temperature of solid wall is far beyond the critical temperature of liquid argon. The simulation results indicate that the wetting condition of solid–liquid interfacial surface have significant effects on both cases of boiling phenomena. Furthermore, the heat transfer rate with good wettability (lyophilic) is much higher than bad wettability (lyophobic) with same jump temperature degree.

The plume-surface interaction that occurs as a result of a variable-thrust engine exhaust plume impinging on soil during landings is critical for future lunar mission design. Unique lunar environmental properties, such as low gravity, high vacuum, and the regolith layer, make this study complex and challenging. In this paper, we build a reliable simulation model, with constraints based on landing photos, to characterize the erosion properties induced by a low-thrust engine plume. We focus on the low-thrust plume-surface erosion process and erosion properties during the Chang’E-5 mission, aiming to determine the erosion difference between high- and low-thrust conditions; this is a major concern, as the erosion process for a low-thrust lunar mission is rarely studied. First, to identify the entire erosion process and its relative effect on the flat lunar surface, a one-to-one rocket nozzle simulation model is built; ground experimental results are utilized to verify the simulated inlet parameters of the vacuum plume flow field. Following that, plume flow is considered using the finite volume method, and the Roberts erosion model, based on excess shear stress, is adopted to describe plume-surface interaction properties. Finally, a Lagrangian framework using the discrete phase model is selected to investigate the dynamic properties of lunar dust particles. Results show that erosion depth, total ejected mass, and the maximum particle incline angle during the Chang’E-5 landing period are approximately 0.2 cm, 335.95 kg, and 4.16°, respectively. These results are not only useful for the Chang’E-5 lunar sample analysis, but also for future lunar mission design.
