Graduated in Bachelor of Biological Sciences from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, Master in Fungi Biology, from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Ph.D. in Molecular Biology (concentration area: Microbiology), from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom and Post-Doctorate in the Discipline of Infectious Diseases, Federal University of São Paulo. He served as a visiting professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Duke University (United States). He is currently Associate Professor III of the Department of Clinical and Toxicological Analysis and permanent member of the Graduate Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Sciences ( of which he was vice coordinator, in the biennium, at the UFRN. He has experience in the field of Microbiology, with an emphasis on Medical and Environmental Mycology, acting on the following topics: evaluation of expression of virulence factors in vitro and ex vivo, animal models of fungal infection, use of natural products and bioactive molecules with antifungal activity and investigation of the mechanism of action in the fungal cell, genotypic and phenotypic characterizations, susceptibility testing to commercially available antifungal agents, genotyping, molecular identification, gene expression, phylogenetic and proteomic analysis of clinical and environmental isolates of pathogenic and opportunistic fungi. He is currently a CNPq research productivity fellow, level 2, in the area of Microbiology.
