Dr. Marco Baralle is currently the Group Leader of the RNA Biology Group at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Trieste, Italy. He obtained his BSc in Biochemistry at the University College London, in 1992. Then, he completed his Ph.D. studies at the University of London, in 2000. Since beginning his postdoctoral work, his interests have included the role of RNA splicing in genetic disease with particular interest in how the mechanism of splicing is affected by gene mutations, and what this teaches us about the
complex mechanism and role of splicing. Uniting his 5 years as head of the Biotechnology group, where he concentrated on biological proteins of pharmaceutical interest, he focuses on how the knowledge of these mechanisms can be used to prevent or alter disease.
