With the development of space laser communication and the planned deployment of satellite Internet constellations, there is a growing demand for microminiature laser communication terminals. To meet the requirements of size, weight and power (SWaP), miniaturized terminals require smaller drive components to complete on-orbit scanning and capture, which must be fast and efficient to enable satellite laser communication networks. These miniaturized laser communication terminals are highly susceptible to the impact of the initial pointing accuracy of the laser beam and microvibrations of the satellite platform. Therefore, this paper proposes a laser scanning-capture model based on a Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS) micromirror that can provide a fast, large-scale scanning analysis. A scanning overlap factor is introduced to improve the capture probability under the influence of microvibrations. Finally, experimental analysis was carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model, which can establish a theoretical basis for future ultra-long-distance microspace laser communication.

This paper proposes a novel robust control scheme for tip trajectory tracking of a lightweight flexible single-link arm. The developed control scheme deals with the influence of tip payload changes and disturbances during the working process of the flexible arm, thus realizing the accurate tracking for the tip reference trajectory. The robust control scheme is composed of an inner loop and an outer loop. The inner loop adopts the traditional PD control, and an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) with a sliding mode (SM) compensation is designed in the outer loop. Moreover, the sliding mode compensation is mainly used to cope with the disturbance estimation error from the extended state observer (ESO), by which the insensitivity to tip payload variations and strong disturbance resistance is achieved. Finally, some numerical simulations are performed to support the theoretical analysis. The results show that the system is more robust to the tip mass variations of the arm and more resistant to the external torque after adding the sliding mode robustness term to the ADRC.

During the interaction process of a manipulator executing a grasping task, to ensure no damage to the object, accurate force and position control of the manipulator’s end-effector must be concurrently implemented. To address the computationally intensive nature of current hybrid force/position control methods, a variable-parameter impedance control method for manipulators, utilizing a gradient descent method and Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN), is proposed. This method employs a position-based impedance control structure that integrates iterative learning control principles with a gradient descent method to dynamically adjust impedance parameters. Firstly, a sliding mode controller is designed for position control to mitigate uncertainties, including friction and unknown perturbations within the manipulator system. Secondly, the RBFNN, known for its nonlinear fitting capabilities, is employed to identify the system throughout the iterative process. Lastly, a gradient descent method adjusts the impedance parameters iteratively. Through simulation and experimentation, the efficacy of the proposed method in achieving precise force and position control is confirmed. Compared to traditional impedance control, manual adjustment of impedance parameters is unnecessary, and the method can adapt to tasks involving objects of varying stiffness, highlighting its superiority.

In this paper, the finite-time trajectory tracking control problem of a flexible link manipulator (FLM) system with unknown parameters is investigated in joint space. An adaptive nonsingular terminal sliding mode (ANTSM) controller based on an extended state observer (ESO) is proposed to ensure that the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of zero. Firstly, an adaptive ESO is introduced, which is used to estimate unknown system parameters, including the unknown rigid-flexible coupling coefficient and the unknown control gain. Then, an ESO based on the parameters estimated above is proposed to estimate the unmodeled dynamics and external disturbances of the system in real-time. Finally, an ANTSM controller based on ESO is studied to achieve finite-time trajectory tracking control and vibration suppression without any prior knowledge of system uncertainties and external disturbances. The finite-time convergence ability of the closed-loop system is proved by Lyapunov theory. Experimental results on the Quanser Flexible Link System verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

In this study, a tracking and pointing control system with a dual-FSM (fast steering mirror) two-dimensional flexible turntable composite axis is proposed. It is applied to the target-tracking accuracy control in a GI LiDAR (ghost imaging LiDAR) system. Ghost imaging is a multi-measurement imaging method; the dual-FSM GI LiDAR tracking and pointing imaging control system proposed in this study mainly solves the problems of the high-resolution remote sensing imaging of high-speed moving targets and various nonlinear disturbances when this technology is transformed into practical applications. Addressing the detrimental effects of nonlinear disturbances originating from internal flexible mechanisms and assorted external environmental factors on motion control’s velocity, stability, and tracking accuracy, a nonlinear active disturbance rejection control (NLADRC) method based on artificial neural networks is advanced. Additionally, to overcome the limitations imposed by receiving aperture constraints in GI LiDAR systems, a novel optical path design for the dual-FSM GI LiDAR tracking and imaging system is put forth. The implementation of the described methodologies culminated in the development of a dual-FSM GI LiDAR tracking and imaging system, which, upon thorough experimental validation, demonstrated significant improvements. Notably, it achieved an improvement in the coarse tracking accuracy from 193.29 μrad (3σ) to 87.21 μrad (3σ) and enhanced the tracking accuracy from 10.1 μrad (σ) to 1.5 μrad (σ) under specified operational parameters. Furthermore, the method notably diminished the overshoot during the target capture process from 28.85% to 12.8%, concurrently facilitating clear recognition of the target contour. This research contributes significantly to the advancement of GI LiDAR technology for practical application, showcasing the potential of the proposed control and design strategies in enhancing system performance in the face of complex disturbances.
