Context: The selection and use of appropriate multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods for solving complex problems is one of the challenging issues faced by decision makers in the search for appropriate decisions. To address these challenges, MCDM methods have effectively been used in the areas of ICT, farming, business, and trade, for example. This study explores the integration of machine learning and MCDM methods, which has been used effectively in diverse application areas. Objective: The objective of the research is to critically analyze state-of-the-art research methods used in intelligent decision support systems and to further identify their application areas, the significance of decision support systems, and the methods, approaches, frameworks, or algorithms exploited to solve complex problems. The study provides insights for early-stage researchers to design more intelligent and cost-effective solutions for solving problems in various application domains. Method: To achieve the objective, literature from the years 2015 to early 2020 was searched and considered in the study based on quality assessment criteria. The selected relevant literature was studied to respond to the research questions proposed in this study. To find answers to the research questions, pertinent literature was analyzed to identify the application domains where decision support systems are exploited, the impact and significance of the contributions, and the algorithms, methods, and techniques which are exploited in various domains to solve decision-making problems. Results: Results of the study show that decision support systems are widely used as useful decision-making tools in various application domains. The research has collectively studied machine learning, artificial intelligence, and multi-criteria decision-making models used to provide efficient solutions to complex decision-making problems. In addition, the study delivers detailed insights into the use of AI, ML and MCDM methods to the early-stage researchers to start their research in the right direction and provide them with a clear roadmap of research. Hence, the development of Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS) using machine learning (ML) and multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) can assist researchers to design and develop better decision support systems. These findings can help researchers in designing more robust, efficient, and effective multicriteria-based decision models, frameworks, techniques, and integrated solutions.

Android and Windows are the predominant operating systems used in mobile environment and personal computers and it is expected that their use will rise during the next decade. Malware is one of the main threats faced by these platforms as well as Internet of Things (IoT) environment and the web. With time, these threats are becoming more and more sophisticated and detecting them using traditional machine learning techniques is a hard task. Several research studies have shown that deep learning methods achieve better accuracy comparatively and can learn to efficiently detect and classify new malware samples. In this paper, we present a systematic literature review of the recent studies that focused on intrusion and malware detection and their classification in various environments using deep learning techniques. We searched five well-known digital libraries and collected a total of 107 papers that were published in scholarly journals or preprints. We carefully read the selected literature and critically analyze it to find out which types of threats and what platform the researchers are targeting and how accurately the deep learning-based systems can detect new security threats. This survey will have a positive impact on the learning capabilities of beginners who are interested in starting their research in the area of malware detection using deep learning methods. From the detailed critical analysis, it is identified that CNN, LSTM, DBN, and autoencoders are the most frequently used deep learning methods that have effectively been used in various application scenarios.

The era of big textual corpora and machine learning technologies have paved the way for researchers in numerous data mining fields. Among them, causality mining (CM) from textual data has become a significant area of concern and has more attention from researchers. Causality (cause-effect relations) serves as an essential category of relationships, which plays a significant role in question answering, future events predication, discourse comprehension, decision making, future scenario generation, medical text mining, behavior prediction, and textual prediction entailment. While, decades of development techniques for CM are still prone to performance enhancement, especially for ambiguous and implicitly expressed causalities. The ineffectiveness of the early attempts is mainly due to small, ambiguous, heterogeneous, and domain-specific datasets constructed by manually linguistic and syntactic rules. Many researchers have deployed shallow machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques to deal with such datasets, and they achieved satisfactory performance. In this survey, an effort has been made to address a comprehensive review of some state-of-the-art shallow ML and DL approaches in CM. We present a detailed taxonomy of CM and discuss popular ML and DL approaches with their comparative weaknesses and strengths, applications, popular datasets, and frameworks. Lastly, the future research challenges are discussed with illustrations of how to transform them into productive future research directions.

The popularity of the Internet of Things has led to the rapid development of the consumer electronics industry and the interconnection of digital devices in various scenarios. The effective utilization of sensors can provide accurate data support for the development of IoT. With the construction of intelligent IoT, general sensors have been unable to meet the actual demand of system operation, it is necessary to rely on intelligent sensors to fully promote the intelligent and modern construction of IoT. In particular, intelligent sensors are usually employed in complex environments, which require automated monitoring of operating status to ensure the stability of electronic devices. Meanwhile, intelligent sensors are applied in industrial production, and its status monitoring is of great significance for social safety. For this purpose, we propose an automated monitoring method for intelligent sensors in consumer electronics by a joint self-attention mechanism and residual network. We design residual feature extraction and self-attention mechanism for mining salient representations of sensor faults, respectively, and fuse time-domain contextual information using long-and short-term memory network. The proposed methodology is able to capture and analyze the characteristics of sensor faults more effectively and understand the temporal nature of sensor data more comprehensively, which further improves the accuracy and reliability of operation state monitoring and fault diagnosis. The qualitative and quantitative experiments in two public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
