Biography

I hold a PhD degree in Biotechnology and since 2008 my research has been focused on clarifying the molecular basic mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease (PD), using yeast cells as the model organism. More recently, I also became interested in the role of synucleins in retinal neurodegeneration in the context of diabetic retinopathy. I have secured independent funding as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI in 4 research projects. Additionally, I participated extensively in advanced training. I supervised five post-docs, four PhD students, eight MSc students, eight scientific traineeships, and managed five technicians. I was a member of the jury in several PhD and MSc defences and I lectured in MSc and PhD programs. I am a member of the Management Committee (MC) of BenBedPhar COST Action (CA20121) (2021–2024). Globally, in my scientific career, I achieved 51 peer-reviewed publications (including a book chapter). I am the first author of 15 and co-corresponding author of five of these articles. In total, my publications have been cited ~2000 times. Currently, my H-INDEX is 28 (according to Scopus).
