The rapid development of computational methods and the increasing volume of chemical and biological data have contributed to an immense growth in chemical research. This field of study is known as "chemoinformatics," which is a discipline that uses machine-learning techniques to extract, process, and extrapolate data from chemical structures. One of the significant lines of research in chemoinformatics is the study of blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability, which aims to identify drug penetration into the central nervous system (CNS). In this research, we attempt to solve the problem of BBB permeability by predicting compounds penetration to the CNS. To accomplish this goal: (i) First, an overview is provided to the field of chemoinformatics, its definition, applications, and challenges, (ii) Second, a broad view is taken to investigate previous machine-learning and deep-learning computational models to solve BBB permeability. Based on the analysis of previous models, three main challenges that collectively affect the classifier performance are identified, which we define as "the triple constraints"; subsequently, we map each constraint to a proposed solution, (iii) Finally, we conclude this endeavor by proposing a deep learning based Recurrent Neural Network model, to predict BBB permeability (RNN-BBB model). Our model outperformed other studies from the literature by scoring an overall accuracy of 96.53%, and a specificity score of 98.08%. The obtained results confirm that addressing the triple constraints substantially improves the classification model capability specifically when predicting compounds with low penetration.

Companies aim to offer customized treatments, intelligent care, and a seamless experience to their customers. Interactions between a company and its customers largely depend on the company’s ability to learn, understand, and predict customer behaviors. Customer behavior prediction is a pivotal factor in improving a company’s quality of services and thus its growth. Different machine learning techniques have been applied to gather customer data to predict behavioral patterns. Traditional methods are unable to discover hidden patterns in ideal situations and need to be improved to produce more accurate predictions. This work proposes a novel hybrid model comprised of two modules: a novel clustering module on the basis of an optimized fuzzy deep belief network and a customer behavior prediction module on the basis of a deep recurrent neural network. Customers’ previous purchasing characteristics and portfolio details were analyzed by applying learning parameters. In this paper, the deep learning techniques were optimized by applying the butterfly optimization method, which minimizes the maximum error classification problem. The performance of the system was evaluated using experimental analysis. The proposed approach was compared to other single and hybrid-model-based approaches and attained the highest performance in the respective metrics.

Valve sounds are mostly a result of heart valves opening and closing. Laminar blood flow is interrupted and abruptly transforms into turbulent flow, causing some sounds, and is explained by improper valve operation. It has been feasible to demonstrate that the typical and compulsive instances are different for both chronological and spatial aspects through the examination of phono-cardiographic signals. The current work presents the development and application of deep convolutional neural networks for the binary and multiclass categorization of multiple prevalent valve diseases and typical valve sounds. Three alternative methods were taken into consideration for feature extraction: mel-frequency cepstral coefficients and discrete wavelet transform. The precision of both models accomplished F1 scores of more than 98.2% and specificities of more than 98.5%, which reflects the instances that can be wrongly classified as regular. These experimental results prove the proposed model as a highly accurate assisted diagnosis model.

Deep learning models are effectively employed to transfer learning to adopt learning from other areas. This research utilizes several neural structures to interpret the electroencephalogram images (EEG) of brain-injured cases to plan operative imagery-computerized interface models for controlling left and right hand movements. This research proposed a model parameter tuning with less training time using transfer learning techniques. The precision of the proposed model is assessed by the aptitudes of motor imagery detection. The experiments depict that the best performance is attained with the incorporation of the proposed EEG-DenseNet and the transfer model. The prediction accuracy of the model reached 96.5% with reduced time computational cost. These high performance proves that the EEG-DenseNet model has high prospective for motor imagery brain-injured therapy systems. It also productively exhibited the effectiveness of transfer learning techniques for enhancing the accuracy of electroencephalogram brain-injured therapy models.

Recent growth and demands for dealing with increasing complexity in management, evaluation, and accreditation of higher educational institutions have led keynote academic institutions and higher education authorities to adopt and try nonconventional solutions known to business firms to account for massive data management. The development in new practices and merging technology for analytics and information management have offered different solutions such as data warehousing, big data, and business intelligence. Such solutions are gradually being installed in a number of renown universities. Due to the difference between the two firms (higher education and business industry) in nature and aims, tailor-made solutions are needed. This paper shares authors' experience in designing and implementing an educational information system in the College of Computers and Information systems at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. The paper also highlights differences between educational intelligence and business intelligence systems. Higher education implementation aspects ensuring suitable data query service to ease the running of high educational institutions are discussed and recognized.
