Biography

Ana M. Martín is Full Professor of Social Psychology at the Universidad de La Laguna, where she teaches Legal Psychology in the Psychology and Law Degrees. She has developed her research in the field of Psychology and Law, in three lines: criminal behavior of adults and juveniles, behavior of juries and professionals in the administration of justice, and environmental crime. These lines are connected by her interest in psychosocial processes such as attributions, norms, attitudes, and social influence. Her involvement with evidence-based interventions has led her to develop this research in contact with technicians of public administrations. The resulting scientific knowledge has been transferred emphasizing the need of introducing changes in the established activities and policies, both in the intervention with adults in prisons and with adolescents with judicial measures, as well as regarding to child-to-parent violence and the control and prevention of environmental crime. Although behaviors that at first glance may seem to be different, they respond to similar psychosocial processes, peculiar and theoretically complex, and require an interdisciplinary approach and creative theoretical and methodological syntheses. Among her publications it is worth mentioning the book Understanding World Jury Systems Through Social Psychological Research, and articles in journals as Legal and Criminological Psychology or The European Journal of Psychology Applied to Legal context.
