Full professor of General and Applied Entomology, retired since 2018. He is member of Accademia Nazionale Italiana di Entomologia, Accademia Roveretana degli Agiati, Accademia dei Georgofili, IUCN/SSC Grasshopper Specialist Group, Comitato Scientifico WWF Italia, associate editor of Biogeographia, Biodiversity Data Journal Rivista Italiana di Ornitologia, and European Journal of Zoology, member of the Editorial Board of the journal Forests. He is presently Editor-in-chief of Il Naturalista Siciliano. He worked on Interrelations between leaf-miners and parasitoids, gall inducer insects (Cynipidae e Cecidomyiidae), arthropods as trophic reserve for insectivorous birds, insectivorous birds in forest habitats, and pelagic birds. He has published around 500 scientific papers and some popular books.
