Gysbert van Setten works at St Eriks Eye Hospital and at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Solna, Sweden. He is the holder of several patent (applications) and conducts, as an ophthalmic surgeon, basic and clinical research. He has for decades engaged in the development of new devices and therapeutical approaches, mainly cataract surgery and dry eye. Within dry eye research, the current focus is on the dynamics of osmolarity, ocular surface inflammation, and the mechanisms of ocular homeostasis. In teaching, the focus is on the need to improve information flow in order to improve and facilitate the optimized clinical implementation or availability of new techniques and devices in various fields of medicine.
