Alice Schippers is a professor of Disability Studies at the University of Humanistic Studies in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where she holds a special appointment on behalf of Disability Studies in Nederland. Living with disabilities is a natural aspect of her existence, and she has been interested in this since a young age. She began working in the disability sector as a teenager, and, since then, she has taken on a variety of responsibilities in this field, including that of a leader and a researcher, an activist and volunteer, a mother, and a friend. Her research interests have included social inclusion, transdisciplinary and inclusive research, and (family) quality of life since the mid-1990s. She is a fervent supporter of inclusive research by and with individuals who have neurodiverse experiences and disabilities. Co-founder of the Inclusive Research Group, previous chair of the Special Interest Research Group on Quality of Life, and current member of the IASSIDD Board, Alice is a Fellow of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD). In addition, she participates in numerous (international) committees and serves as associate editor for two international journals. Her involvement on the Board of Supervisors of an organization that supports people with intellectual disabilities is a way for her to balance her academic work.
