Ramadan A. Arafa is a highly experienced plant pathologist with over 15 years of applied research experience in laboratory, greenhouse, and field settings across Egypt, Japan, India, Spain, and China. He obtained his PhD through a joint supervision program between Kazusa DNA Research Institute in Japan and Cairo University in Egypt, under the guidance of Prof. Kenta Shirasawa. He specializes in integrated disease management, focusing on biological control, plant protection policies, and biopesticide applications. Additionally, Ramadan has expertise in molecular plant pathology, including phylogenetic analysis, plant-pathogen interactions, characterization of fungal pathogens, and identification of disease resistance genes in crops. He is skilled in evaluating and utilizing genetic resources to discover novel sources of disease resistance for crop improvement. His work involves breeding for disease resistance by identifying quantitative trait loci (QTLs), single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and conducting genome-wide association studies (GWAS). He also studies the population dynamics of phytopathogens and oomycetes. Ramadan has contributed to various international projects, enhancing plant disease suppression and crop resilience. Recently, Ramadan has developed an interest in forecasting and early warning systems for plant pathogens. He is focused on utilizing advanced technologies to predict disease outbreaks, aiming to enhance crop protection and management strategies.
