This comprehensive review focuses on the most recent advances in electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) methods in the context of materials science and includes a thorough evaluation of the sample preparation procedures unique to EBSD as well as a complete examination of the important operational parameters inherent in EBSD setups. This review highlights the importance of customizing EBSD parameters for precise microstructural imaging and enhancing understanding of material behavior. While some studies have explored grain boundary characterization, stored energy, and crystallographic orientation using EBSD, there is a clear need for more comprehensive investigations to fully leverage its capabilities. Additionally, there is a significant gap in understanding the optimal choice of the reference plane in EBSD analysis, indicating the necessity for further research to improve EBSD analyses’ accuracy and efficacy. The review seeks to present a detailed and contemporary viewpoint on the many applications, sample preparation techniques, and optimal operational considerations that jointly increase the adaptability and efficacy of EBSD in materials science research by relying on the relevant literature.

The proposed review demonstrates the effect of the surface modification process, specifically, deep rolling, on the material surface/near-surface properties of commercial steels. The present research examines the various process parameters involved in deep rolling and their effects on the material properties of AISI 1040 steel. Key parameters such as the rolling force, feed rate, number of passes, and roller geometry are analyzed in detail, considering their influence on residual stress distribution, surface hardness, and microstructural alterations. Additionally, the impact of deep rolling on the fatigue life, wear resistance, and corrosion behavior of AISI 1040 steel is discussed. Engineering components manufactured by AISI 1040 steel can perform better and last longer when deep rolling treatments are optimized with an understanding of how process variables and material responses interact. This review provides critical insights for researchers and practitioners interested in harnessing deep rolling techniques to enhance the mechanical strength and durability of steel components across diverse industrial settings. In summary, the valuable insights provided by this review pave the way for continued advancements in deep rolling techniques, ultimately contributing to the development of more durable, reliable, and high-performance steel components in diverse industrial applications. The establishment of generalized standardizations for the deep rolling process proves unfeasible because of the multitude of controlling parameters and their intricate interactions. Thus, specific optimization studies tailored to the material of interest are imperative for process standardization. The published literature on the characterization of surface and subsurface properties of deep-rolled AISI 1040 steel, as well as process parameter optimization, remains limited. Additionally, numerical, analytical, and statistical studies and the role of ANN are limited compared with experimental work on the deep rolling process.

Atherosclerosis is a localized complication dependent on both the rheology and the arterial response to blood pressure. Fluid–structure interaction (FSI) study can be effectively used to understand the local haemodynamics and study the development and progression of atherosclerosis. Although numerical investigations of atherosclerosis are well documented, research on the influence of blood pressure as a result of the response to physio–social factors like anxiety, mental stress, and exercise is scarce. In this work, a three-dimensional (3D) Fluid–Structure Interaction (FSI) study was carried out for normal and stenosed patient-specific carotid artery models. Haemodynamic parameters such as Wall Shear Stress (WSS) and Oscillatory Shear Index (OSI) are evaluated for normal and hypertension conditions. The Carreau–Yasuda blood viscosity model was used in the FSI simulations, and the results are compared with the Newtonian model. The results reveal that high blood pressure increases the peripheral resistance, thereby reducing the WSS. Higher OSI occurs in the region with high flow recirculation. Variation of WSS due to changes in blood pressure and blood viscosity is important in understanding the haemodynamics of carotid arteries. This study demonstrates the potential of FSI to understand the causes of atherosclerosis due to altered blood pressures.

The carotid artery is one of the most favorable locations for atherosclerotic plaque accumulation due to its unique geometry. It predominantly occurs at the outer wall of the internal carotid artery (ICA) near the carotid sinus. Fluid–structure interaction study of hemodynamics in the carotid artery with a focus on carotid sinus plays a prominent role in explaining the development and progression of the atherosclerotic lesion. In this study, hemodynamic parameters affecting the plaque accumulation in the carotid artery were investigated with a focus on the carotid sinus. An idealized carotid artery model was taken and hemodynamic parameters such as deformation, wall shear stress (WSS), oscillatory shear index (OSI), relative residence time (RRT), and Helicity were investigated. The atherosclerosis-prone carotid sinus region had significantly low WSS, and low helicity resulting in higher OSI. In these regions, the flow separation had decreased the velocity significantly with a high-velocity angle. The flow divider had significantly elevated WSS due to a higher pressure gradient. Stenosis is predicted to occur at the downstream area of the carotid sinus and develop downstream due to flow separation leading to endothelial dysfunction. Decreased vascular WSS, helicity, and higher OSI are key to the development of endothelial dysfunction leading to atherosclerotic lesion in the carotid sinus.

Polymers are widely used in automotive parts and fields like mechatronics and biomedical engineering because of their excellent properties, such as high durability and light weight. Welding of polymers has grown to be an important field of research due to its relevance among products of everyday life. Through transmission laser welding (TTLW) has been frequently selected by the contemporary re-searchers in the field of welding as it is relatively modern and more efficient than other welding processes. This pa-per reviews the influence of different processing parameters, including laser power, scanning speed, standoff distance, and clamping pressure. The present article is expected to provide the reader with a comprehensive under-standing of TTLW and research on the aforementioned four welding parameters in TTLW. The significance of finite element modeling, a few simulation studies, different optimization approaches, morphological characteristics, and other behaviors of laser welded polymers will be included in the next part of the review.
