Biography

Silvia Álvarez Torrellas is an Associate Professor at the Chemical Engineering and Materials Department of Complutense University of Madrid. She has accomplished four research stays. She is mainly interested in the synthesis and characterization of carbon materials (Biomass Valorization Processes) with enhanced properties, and their use in adsorption and catalysis applications, and the detection and efficient removal of emerging and priority pollutants from wastewater media. She has published 114 papers, has an H index of 30 and more than 3200 citations. She has presented over 110 communications to congresses and has published 14 books and book chapters on the removal of organic pollutants from aqueous solutions by adsorption and biomass valorization technologies, and the presence of emerging pollutants in sewage sludge and soils. Moreover, she has supervised four Doctoral PhD theses (one of them with Industrial PhD Mention, and two with International Mention). She has also participated in more than 14 research projects financed by public funds, such as the Spanish Research Plan, European and Community of Madrid, and in more than 14 projects funded by companies (called as Art. 83 LOU, Art. 60 LOSU), being the main researcher in two of the latter. She was awarded the 5th Technology and Knowledge Transfer Award of Complutense University. She is also Editor of Chemical Engineering Science Journal (Elsevier), and a Spanish member of the Working Party on Fluid Separations (EFCE).
