With more than 15 years of experience, Jorge Amich is an world-leading expert in Aspergillus fumigatus metabolism, virulence traits, antifungal targets and drug resistance and persistence.
Jorge received a PhD in molecular biology and genetics from the University of Salamanca, Spain in 2010. He conducted crucial research into the relevance of zinc homeostasis for fungal virulence. Subsequently, he worked in two different laboratories in Germany as a postdoctoral researcher. In this time he started to focus on fungal sulfur metabolism, which has been the leading line of his career and which he summarizes in this review. In 2016 he became independent as a virtue of a MRC Career Development Award, and established his group at the renowned Manchester Fungal Infection Group (MFIG), at the University of Manchester.
Recently, in 2022 Jorge moved to the National Mycology Reference Centre in Madrid, Spain, with an Atraccion de Talento I CAM Senior Fellowship, where he is continuing his investigations aiming to devise novel antifungal strategies and diagnostic mechanisms.
