Short Biography

Manfred Radmacher is a professor of biophysics at the University of Bremen. His research interests are the mechanical properties of living cells and their relation to diseases. He investigates cells and tissue, mainly with the Atomic Force Microscope, with a strong emphasis on developing methods that allow measuring the viscoelastic properties of cells and tissues. Manfred Radmacher studied physics at the Technical University in Munich and completed a Ph.D. in biophysics there in 1993. After a postdoc in Santa Barbara (UCSB, 1993-1995), he returned to the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, where he received his habilitation in 1999.
