The paper aims to identify the main reasons for the low level of compostable packaging waste management and to propose potential directions for development. Based on qualitative research (individual in-depth interviews and focus group discussions using the Social Innovation Lab), these are: (1) the lack of uniform and transparent regulations regarding the planning and organization of a closed-loop system for compostable packaging, (2) insufficient communication between the private and public sectors on how to increase the use of compostable packaging, (3) poorly developed infrastructure for compostable waste recycling, and (4) a lack of financial incentives to support activities for the circular economy of composting packaging at the communal level. Moreover, the portfolio of bottom-up (initiated by consumers, educational institutions, and NGOs) and bottom-down dimension (national, regional programs) proposals are presented. The diagnosis of different view perspectives of the supply chain underlines the crucial role of stakeholder cooperation improvement.

Compostable packaging is one of the innovative alternatives to conventional packaging. This is also an opportunity in view of the current energy crisis and rising oil prices, firstly, because compostable packaging is produced only from renewable resources, and secondly, it can feed both the composting process and biogas plants. According to the CE principles, it is vital to effectively close product life cycles. Therefore, this paper is aimed at expounding the triggering role of social innovations co-created by stakeholders for improving compostable packaging waste management in accordance with the CE concept. The research procedure consisted of four integrated research phases. A qualitive study was undertaken by conducting 29 in-depth interviews and 3 Social Innovation Labs, engaging 67 bio-packaging market stakeholders, which are national and international companies (e.g., manufacturing, distributing), institutions and other organisations from the social, public and private sectors. The results show that one of the key problems for the development of the CE compostable packaging market is the low level of compostable waste packaging management. Its detailed analysis showed that this problem is associated with several barriers and their numerous causes. According to stakeholders, this can be effectively minimised by applying three social innovations that when combined stimulate all elements of waste management, moving it to a higher level of development.

The development of electric vehicle fleets is an important element of today’s economic, social, and ecological development. This multidimensional sustainable process, although not easy, generates many tangible benefits for various stakeholders, ranging from environmental to financial and competence issues. Despite the fact that the phenomenon of transformation toward rational energy management is gaining momentum on a global scale, there is a significant disproportion in terms of development levels depending on the origin of the economy. The aim of this research article is to identify the key factors affecting the development of fleet electrification in the transport, shipping, and logistics (TSL) sector in Poland. Based on a literature review, a fleet development framework was developed using a PESTEL (political, economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal) analysis and evaluated by TSL companies. According to the conclusions drawn, the most important stimulants are economic factors and technological factors, which limit the development of electrified transport fleets in the TSL industry. Based on this, the authors propose various solutions to improve economic profitability and technological conditions. In addition, it was found that the attitudes of the decision makers at transport companies and cooperation within the TSL sector are also important.

The e-commerce market has been developing very rapidly and changing traditional distribution systems. The development of online channels is matched by a similar evolution of companies’ logistics systems. As a consequence, logistics processes management now significantly influences e-customer service quality, which has emerged as a competitive advantage. The main goal of this paper is to identify e-commerce business models, modern distribution channels and management tools that would facilitate a continuous improvement in e-customer logistics service. Based on the literature and interviews with e-commerce services providers, we provide a plethora of good and best practices useful for managers in the rapidly developing and highly competitive e-commerce business.

The aim of the paper is to recognize the role of external institutions in supporting the Transport, Shipping, and Logistics (TSL) sector in the transformation towards sustainable and low-emission operations in Poland. In the context of the EU’s decarbonization agenda and accelerating climate challenges, the study explores how regulatory, financial, and normative mechanisms affect the electrification of transport fleets. A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining qualitative content analysis of European and national policy frameworks with a quantitative CATI survey among logistics enterprises. The results reveal that legal and normative instruments remain the dominant institutional drivers of fleet electrification, while fiscal incentives—subsidies and tax reliefs—play a supportive but still secondary role. Sectoral and financial pressures from banks and market stakeholders are emerging as new, complementary forces of change. Firm size, ownership structure, and market scope significantly moderate these perceptions. The paper contributes to institutional and innovation-diffusion theory and offers policy insights for designing coherent and multi-level frameworks.

Culture and customer behaviour play an important role in managing food waste. The responsible involvement of householders in purchasing, storing, and consuming food are indeed required not only to produce less waste but also to manage it rationally. In this paper, a research study across two countries was conducted to verify the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and of associated public health measures, on household food waste habits. Food consumption behaviours (like planning meals and food purchases) during COVID-19 in UK and Poland were assessed, to identify environmentally friendly practices that could be adopted on a stable basis. The results indicate that lockdowns did not influence food-management habits significantly in both countries. However, during lockdown periods, respondents showed a change in their purchasing methods in the UK, where survey respondents bought more online (51.20%). The opposite was observed in Poland, where there was no noticeable increase in online shopping (84.07%). The promotion of positive habits in food purchases and environmentally friendly practices such as food sharing and using advanced technology to optimise food management could be beneficial. Our study also paves avenues for future research on the environmental impact of consumers’ food habits after COVID-19.
