Julian Colorado is an associate professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He completed his Ph.D. and M.S. in Robotics at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain, where he studied the development of novel guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) strategies for a diverse range of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including quadrotors and highly articulated morphing-wing drones inspired by the biomechanics of bats. He was a visiting research fellow at Brown University, USA (2010–2011), where he studied how to integrate smart actuators based on shape memory alloys to control wing modulation in a bat-like robot. Julian Colorado’s research interests include the following areas: (i) field robotics: AI-driven drones for agriculture, GNC for UAV monitoring, and robot dynamics and control; and (ii) bio-inspired robotics: nature-inspired mobile robots, bioengineering, smart materials, and actuation.
