Francesca Persano, Ph.D., is a research fellow at the University of Salento, Italy, where she focuses on the development of nanotechnology-based strategies for biomedical applications. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biology (both summa cum laude) and earned her Ph.D. in Nanotechnology from the same university. During her doctoral studies, she was a visiting PhD student at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa, where she worked on synthesizing and characterizing polymeric nanoparticles.
Her research interests include drug delivery, cell biology, cancer research, and the design and characterization of micro- and nanomaterials, such as thermoresponsive hydrogels and functionalized nanoparticles. She has strong expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques, as well as in the preparation and advanced characterization of inorganic and hybrid nanomaterials.
Dr. Persano is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in international journals such as Journal of Materials Chemistry B, View, Frontiers in Chemistry and Seminars in Cancer Biology. She has presented her work at national and international scientific conferences through oral and poster contributions and has also authored a book chapter on mRNA-based cancer therapies.
Her work combines interdisciplinary approaches to tackle challenges in nanomedicine, with a special focus on developing efficient and target therapeutic platforms.
