Erick Reyes-Vera was born in Cúcuta, Colombia, in 1986. He received the B.S. degree in Physical Engineering in 2009 and the M.Sc. degree in Physics in 2014 from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellín, Colombia, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2020 from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia. From 2021 to 2022, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Corporación para Investigaciones Biológicas (CIB), where his research focused on artificial intelligence for medical imaging and microwave biosensing. Since 2013, he has been with the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at Institución Universitaria ITM, Medellín, Colombia, where he is currently a Professor and Researcher. His research interests include optical fiber sensors, photonic crystal fibers, photonic and optoelectronic devices, optical communications, microwave and RF devices, antennas, electromagnetic sensing, microwave biosensors, microwave hyperthermia, terahertz technologies, and the application of machine learning to photonic, electromagnetic, and biomedical systems. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 scientific publications, several book chapters, and multiple patents and patent applications in photonics, microwave devices, sensing, and biomedical instrumentation.
