To reduce the false detection rate of vehicle targets caused by occlusion, an improved method of vehicle detection in different traffic scenarios based on an improved YOLO v5 network is proposed. The proposed method uses the Flip-Mosaic algorithm to enhance the network’s perception of small targets. A multi-type vehicle target dataset collected in different scenarios was set up. The detection model was trained based on the dataset. The experimental results showed that the Flip-Mosaic data enhancement algorithm can improve the accuracy of vehicle detection and reduce the false detection rate.
Road defects are important factors affecting traffic safety. In order to improve the identification efficiency of road diseases and the pertinence of maintenance and management, intelligent detection technologies of road diseases have been developed. The problems of high cost and low efficiency of artificial inspection of road diseases are solved efficiently, and the quality of road construction is improved availably. This is not only the guarantee of highway quality but also the guarantee of people’s lives and safety. This study focuses on the intelligent detection of road disease and summarizes the commonly used detection equipment in the intelligent detection technology of road diseases, which include cameras, GPR, LiDAR, and IMU. It systematically describes the evolution and development of road disease detection technology. This study analyzes the common problems existing in road disease detection technology and proposes corresponding improvement suggestions. Finally, the development trend of road detection technology is discussed, which has practical significance for the future development of road detection technology.

Tracking road users with high resolution is important for connected vehicles. Due to the complicated environments, tracking objects with a single sensor could not meet the requirements of high-resolution trajectories due to occlusions. How to acquire accurate and complete trajectories based on multisource data is a major challenge for researchers and engineers. This article developed a novel tracking method based on the fusion of roadside light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and camera. According to the relationship between the number of points and distance, the adaptive weight coefficient related to 3-D trajectory information was determined. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated at five selected sites. The proposed tracking method had high performance in terms of speed calculation, tracking range, the rate of object loss, and the repairing rate of disconnected trajectories. The proposed method can benefit many transportation areas, such as traffic volume counting, vehicle speed tracking, and traffic safety analysis.
Different lighting conditions can result in accidents of different levels of severity. However, current studies lack the consideration of the heterogeneity and temporal stability of accident data under various lighting conditions. Therefore, three years’ worth of data were used to investigate the critical factors of accident severity. The random parameters logit model was employed to investigate the influence of different lighting conditions on temporal stability and heterogeneity. The critical factors affecting injury severity were also identified. The temporal stability and transferability of the models were investigated by a series of likelihood ratio tests. Based on different lighting conditions (daylight conditions, and night-time conditions with street lighting on), six models were established. Three kinds of accident injury severity levels were classified: property damage only (PDO), severe injury (SI), and fatal injury (FI). The estimation results showed contributing factors of accident severity were significantly different between the two kinds of lighting conditions. Additionally, accidents showed temporal instability. The proposed method can provide a guide for infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance in traffic-safety management.
With the increasing number of vehicles and the continuous increase of highway mileage. Traffic safety issues are gradually coming into view. Placing lidar on the side of the road can increase the safety of driving at high highway speeds. In order to achieve uninterrupted detection of vehicles on the highway. It is necessary to rationally deploy lidar. In this paper, the installation inclination, installation height, installation distance from the highway and the layout distance of adjacent lidar are studied. And the optimal layout scheme is given according to the highway in different scenarios.
