Juan Duarte obtained a doctorate of
Pharmacy in 1988 from the University of Granada. Since 2003, he has held the
position of Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Granada. He is part
of the research group CTS-164 of the Andalusian Government, for which he has
been responsible since 2009, and within which he has participated in 16
national and regional research projects, in 9 of which he was the principal
investigator. Since 2007, he has also been part of the Heracles Research
Network (RETIC) node as principal investigator at the University of Granada,
which was assimilated in 2012 by the Cardiovascular Research Network (RIC), and
then the CIBER-CV from Carlos III Institute of Health. He has spent periods in
research centers at the Complutense University of Madrid and Louis Pasteur
University in Strasbourg. His research has focused on the study of dietary
polyphenols in hypertension and diabetes. Currently, he analyzes the role of microbiota in endothelial dysfunction and the effect of
probiotics and drug receptor agonists peroxisome proliferator activated (PPAR)
beta in hypertension and systemic lupus erythematosus.
