Water is a critical component of life on this planet, as humans, animals, and plants all rely on water supplies for survival. Regrettably, human activity has contaminated water sources. As a means of remedying this situation, each river should have an intelligent system that continuously monitors the water quality index at each water source. However, testing and establishing a realistic acceptability level for all water quality and control parameters takes time. Some of the data on the parameter’s values were also not immediately available. To address this problem, an estimation based on past samples and readings was applied. The process also implemented an exemplary computer system-based method known as an artificial neural network (ANN) Which has evolved into a promising and versatile tool for data prediction over the last few years. This article analyses and compares a host of ANN techniques that have been researched or used in the past to determine water quality. According to this study’s review of available literature, there are two types of ANN computation engines: Feedforward network systems and recurrent network systems that can be used for the purposes of determining water quality. Each method has advantages and disadvantages which were studied and this study hypothesises that with right techniques will be able to accurately predict and account for river water quality.

Water quality is one of the most highly debated issues worldwide at the moment. Inadequate water supplies affect human health, hinder food production, and degrade the environment. Using contemporary technology to analyze pollution statistics can help solve pollution issues. One option is to take advantage of advancements in intelligent data processing to conduct hydrological parameter analysis. To perform conclusive water quality studies, a lot of data is necessary. Unfilled data (information gaps) in the long-term hydrological data set may be due to equipment faults, collection schedule delays, or the data collection officer’s absence. The lack of hydrological data skews its interpretation. Therefore, interpolation is used to recreate and fill missing hydrological data. From 2012 to 2017, the Klang River’s biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in Selangor, Malaysia, was sampled. This study examined three methods of interpolation for their effectiveness using the MATLAB software: piecewise cubic hermite interpolating polynomial (PCHIP), cubic Spline data interpolation (Spline), and modified Akima partitioned cubic hermite interpolation (Makima). The accuracy is assessed using root mean square error (RMSE). All interpolation algorithms offer excellent results with low RMSE. However, PCHIP delivers the best match between interpolated and original data.

Poverty, an intricate global challenge influenced by economic, political, and social elements, is characterized by a deficiency in crucial resources, necessitating collective efforts towards its mitigation as embodied in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The Gini coefficient is a statistical instrument used by nations to measure income inequality, economic status, and social disparity, as escalated income inequality often parallels high poverty rates. Despite its standard annual computation, impeded by logistical hurdles and the gradual transformation of income inequality, we suggest that short-term forecasting of the Gini coefficient could offer instantaneous comprehension of shifts in income inequality during swift transitions, such as variances due to seasonal employment patterns in the expanding gig economy. System Identification (SI), a methodology utilized in domains like engineering and mathematical modeling to construct or refine dynamic system models from captured data, relies significantly on the Nonlinear Auto-Regressive (NAR) model due to its reliability and capability of integrating nonlinear functions, complemented by contemporary machine learning strategies and computational algorithms to approximate complex system dynamics to address these limitations. In this study, we introduce a NAR Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) approach for brief term estimation of the Gini coefficient. Several parameters were tested to discover the optimal model for Malaysia's Gini coefficient within 1987–2015, namely the output lag space, hidden units, and initial random seeds. The One-Step-Ahead (OSA), residual correlation, and residual histograms were used to test the validity of the model. The results demonstrate the model's efficacy over a 28-year period with superior model fit (MSE: 1.14 × 10−7) and uncorrelated residuals, thereby substantiating the model's validity and usefulness for predicting short-term variations in much smaller time steps compared to traditional manual approaches.

The adoption of precision agriculture in pineapple farming has a significant impact by increasing the yield and reducing the input resources while improving the management of pineapple crops. The intersection of advanced drone technology and cutting-edge artificial intelligence has reformed fruit crop management through revolutionary levels of automation, precision fruit detection, yield estimation, and crop health detection. However, the capability for obscuring the detection of subtle features to better manage occlusions and complex environments in images captured by drones at certain heights with drones is challenging to distinguish, thus hindering an accurate object analysis for fruit-environment differentiation. The proposed work uses Deep Learning (DL) techniques to classify pineapple fruit images captured ten meters above the ground. This is achieved specifically through the use of pretrained models and Faster Region-Based Convolutional Neural Networks (Faster R-CNNs) due to their ability to learn robust interpretations from images for object classification tasks. This paper evaluates the capabilities and accuracies of four pretrained models, namely ResNet-101, ResNet-50, Inception-ResNet-v2, and VGG-19, to detect and classify the pineapple fruit amidst the complex background and varying lighting conditions. By evaluating the pretrained models for pineapple fruit classification using comprehensive metrics (True Positive Rate (TPR), False Positive Rate (FPR), Accuracy (ACC), Recall (REC), Precision (PRE), F1-score), the results reveal that the Faster R-CNN architecture with the VGG-19 pretrained model outperformed the other architectures, demonstrating the best performance in pineapple fruit detection with an ACC of 0.7924 (79.24%), a PRE of 0.9990 (99.90%), a REC of 0.7930 (79.30%), and an F1-score of 0.8839 (88.39%). The effectiveness of this model in overseeing complex scenarios suggests potential improvements in classification accuracy compared to other pretrained models, while acknowledging performance variability across various architectures.

Current smartphones are equipped with various sensors, which can be used for research and data collection purposes. This papers presents an approach to use the gyroscope sensor present in many smartphones to perform gesture recognition. Two phones were strapped onto the subject body. Gyroscope readings were obtained during several gestures. The gyroscope readings were sent to MATLAB using the SensorUDP application installed on the phone. A total of 125 readings of 4 gestures were collected from 4 subjects and fed to a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) classifier. Tests were performed to determine the optimal threshold and number of hidden units, respectively. The best classifier produced 99.69% accuracy.

This study has proposed a non-linear autoregressive model to predict one-day ahead dissolved oxygen in paddy field irrigation channel. A 32-day data is obtained from Kampung Padang To’ La in Pasir Mas, Kelantan using off-the shelf water quality parameter sensors. Analysis has revealed no correlation between dissolved oxygen with pH and electrical conductivity. A non-linear autoregressive model is then developed using the dissolved oxygen measurements and artificial neural network. A prediction model developed using Levenberg- Marquardt algorithm yielded the best results with overall regression of 0.9253. The model has also passed all correlation tests and can therefore, be accepted.
