Agritourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina has a lot of potential benefit for economic growth and sustainable development in rural regions, as it incorporates local culture and natural beauty into the tourism offerings of the region. Tourism creates opportunities to diversify the economy, retain traditions, improve local income, and protect natural resources. This study covered Međugorje, Ilijaš, Rostovo, Vlašić, Bosanska Krupa, Neum, Olovo, Gornji Vakuf, Sarajevo, and Donji Vakuf. Agritourism can provide authentic experiences like learning about traditional agriculture, fruit harvesting, tasting local products, and environmental preservation in destinations like Međugorje and Neum. Ilijaš and Gornji Vakuf have potential in organic production, while agricultural facilities in Vlašić may attract people seeking outdoor activities like hiking and skiing. Bosanska Krupa and Olovo have the potential to create one-of-a-kind agritourism experiences by leveraging their rich natural and cultural history. In addition to economic benefits, agritourism can help to preserve local culture and traditions. This is especially important in nations that are modernising and globalising. Agritourism allows tourists to gain a better understanding and respect for the local culture and traditions. The integration of agritourism within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s larger tourist offering is potentially the key to success in rural economic development and sustainability. This requires investment in infrastructural development, local population education, and destination advertising in both domestic and international markets. This study aims to investigate how agritourism may be efficiently incorporated into the overall tourism system, with a focus on three important segments: products, services, and promotion. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to study existing practices and identify difficulties in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s agritourism. More research on the demands of the target group, the economic impact of agritourism, and the sustainability of implemented techniques is recommended. Understanding market dynamics and consumer behaviour can aid in the development of strategies to assist the growth of agritourism. Integrating agritourism into a closed system of product and service offers has the potential to considerably boost the competitiveness of the sector. Investing in infrastructure, education, and coordinated promotion are critical elements to realise the full potential of agritourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Aronia is known for its medicinal properties due to its unique chemical characteristics, which are influenced by various factors, including growing conditions, soil quality and harvest time. Like most fruit species with high water content, aronia has a low caloric value. The specific composition of aronia may vary slightly in different ecological conditions due to influencing factors. The research included the most common aronia variety Nero, at three different growing locations: Mostar (Gornji Jasenjani), Bugojno and Kupres. The research results indicate that the average height and width of the Nero variety fruit was the highest at the Kupres location with 10.92 mm and 12.01 mm, and the lowest at the Mostar (Gornji Jasenjani) location with 9.19 mm and 10.02 mm. The chemical composition of the Nero variety fruits varied at different locations. The Nero variety had the highest content of total sugars at the Kupres location (6.35%) and total acids (1.36%), while at the Mostar location (Gornji Jasenjani) it had slightly lower values of total sugars (5.59%) and total acids (1.06%). Regarding the content of dry matter, minerals and pH values, the Nero variety had higher average values at the Mostar location (Gornji Jasenjani) compared to Bugojno. The lowest pH value (3.45) was recorded for the Nero variety at the Kupres location. The results of morphological and chemical characteristics of chokeberry in different agro-ecological conditions indicate the potential for increased production of this attractive fruit species in the mountainous areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Urban horticulture as a segment of urban agriculture can take various forms: home gardens, allotment farming, community gardens, community-supported agriculture, vertical farming, etc. After the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia and neighboring countries, growing horticultural plants in urban and suburban areas became increasingly popular. The aim of the study was to investigate citizens’ attitudes towards the benefits and support of urban horticulture, its relationship to the environment, and needs and relevance in studies in the cities of Šibenik, Split, Mostar and Skopje. The research methods used for the purpose of this study were theoretical analysis method, survey and analytical descriptive and statistical method. The research was conducted online during the first half of 2024 on a sample of 506 respondents. The main goal of the paper was to examine the views of citizens on urban horticulture. With specific objectives, the views of citizens were examined on the benefits of urban horticulture, the relationship between urban horticulture and the environment, urban horticulture and plant protection, support for urban horticulture, and the needs and trends of urban horticulture. and plant protection, support for urban horticulture, needs and trends of urban horticulture. The results showed that citizens are mostly positive towards growing horticultural plants in urban and suburban areas without pollution. In urban horticulture, respondents prefer using ecological principles and products. Female respondents expressed more positive attitudes towards the fashionability and need for urban horticulture. Respondents from Skopje showed the most positive attitudes towards the benefits of urban horticulture and its relationship to the environment. Also, there is no statistically significant difference in attitudes towards urban horticulture with regard to the location of residence. The research contributes to the trend of development and promotion of urban horticulture with a special emphasis on the importance of environmental preservation. It also contributes to the development of an interdisciplinary method that connects natural and social sciences, and develops an empirical approach that can improve urban culture with the aim of preserving the environment.
