As the particularly popular green energy, geothermal resources are gradually favored by countries around the world, and the development model centered on geothermal dew point cannot meet the increasing geothermal demand. In this paper, a GIS model combining PCA and AHP is proposed, aiming to select the advantages of geothermal resources at the regional scale and analyze the main influencing indicators. Through the combination of the two methods, both data and empirical can be considered, then the geothermal advantage distribution on the area can be displayed through GIS software images. A multi-index evaluation system is established to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the mid-high temperature geothermal resources in Jiangxi Province, and carry out the evaluation of the dominant target areas and the analysis of geothermal impact indicators. The results show that it is divided into 7 geothermal resource potential areas and 38 geothermal advantage targets, and the determination of deep fault is the most critical index of geothermal distribution. This method is suitable for large-scale geothermal research, multi-index and multi-data model analysis and precise positioning of high-quality geothermal resource targets, which can meet the needs of geothermal research at the regional scale.

Wuhan and its surrounding areas have obvious geothermal spring outcrops, which are unexplored potential geothermal resources. The degree of geothermal resource development in Wuhan is low, and there is a lack of systematic research on their hydrochemical characteristics and formation mechanism. The Wuhan area is bounded by the Xiang-Guang fault, the South Qinling-Dabie orogenic belt in the north, and the Yangtze landmass in the south, with Silurian and Quaternary outcrops and little bedrock outcrops. The Silurian is the main water barrier in the region, which separates the upper Triassic and Paleogene as shallow aquifers and the lower Cambrian and Ordovician as deep aquifers. Different strata are connected by a series of fault structures, which constitute Wuhan’s unique groundwater water-bearing system. Eleven geothermal water (23~52 °C) and six surface water samples (around 22 °C) were collected from the study area. The geothermal water in the study area is weakly alkaline, with a pH of 7.04~8.24. The chemical type of geothermal water is mainly deep SO42− with a higher TDS and shallow HCO3− type water with a lower TDS. Isotopic analysis indicates that atmospheric precipitation and water-rock interaction are the main ionic sources of geothermal water. The chemical composition of geothermal water is dominated by ion-exchange interactions and the dissolution of carbonates and silicates. The characteristic coefficients, correlation analysis, water chemistry type, recharge elevation, geothermal water age, reservoir temperature, and cycle depth were also analyzed. The performance was similar in the same geothermal reservoir, which could be judged as an obviously deep and shallow geothermal fluid reservoir, and the genetic conceptual model of Wuhan geothermal was preliminarily deduced. DXR-8 and DXR-9 had the best reservoir conditions, hydrodynamic conditions, rapid alternation of water bodies, and large circulation depth, which is a favorable location for geothermal resource development and will bring considerable economic and social benefits.

In the past ten years, a great deal of geological study has been reported on the magmatic rocks exposed in the central and western region of the Kuluketage Block, while similar research in the eastern region has rarely been reported. In this paper, we report zircon U–Pb geochronological, zircon Lu–Hf isotopic, whole-rock elemental and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic data for the Dapingliang intermediate-acid intrusive rocks in the eastern Kuluketage Block, in order to evaluate its petrogenesis and tectonic significance. Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) zircon U–Pb dating provided a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 735 ± 3 Ma for the albitophyre (D1), 717 ± 2 Ma for the granite porphyry (D2) and 721 ± 1 Ma for the diorite porphyrite (D3). Geochemical analyses reveal that D1 and D2 belong to Na-rich alkaline A-type granites, and D3 shows the features of high-K calc-alkaline I-type granite. D1 and D2 are characterized by light rare earth element (LREE) enrichment and relative depletion of high field strength element (HFSE), with relatively flat heavy rare earth element (HREE) patterns and obviously negative Eu anomalies. D3 is characterized by the enrichment of LREE and depletion of HFSE, with negative slope HREE patterns and slightly negative Eu anomalies. In tectonic discrimination diagrams, D1 and D2 fall in the within-plate granite (WPG) field, indicating a rift setting. Although D3 falls within the volcanic arc granite (VAG) field, it most likely formed in a rift setting, as inferred from its petrology, Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes and regional tectonic evolution. Based on pronounced εNd(t), εHf(t), Pb isotopic data, TDM2 and high (87Sr/86Sr)i and elemental compositions, D1 was derived from the partial melting of basement amphibolites of the old lower crust. D2 originated from a mixture of the old lower crust and depleted mantle-derived magmas and was dominated by partial melting of the basement amphibolites of the lower crust. D3 could have been formed by partial melting of K-rich hornblende in the lower crust. Combining previous studies, we think that the c. 745–710 Ma magmatic rocks were formed in a continental rift setting. A partial melting scheme, triggered by underplating of mantle plume-derived magmas, is proposed to interpret the formation of c. 745–710 Ma A-type and I-type granitoids, mantle-derived mafic dykes, bimodal intrusive rocks, adakitic granites and volcanic rocks. These magmatic activities were probably a reflection of the break-up of the Rodinia supercontinent.Highlights(1) Circa 720 Ma magmatism in the eastern Kuluketage Block.(2) Na-rich granite was derived from partial melting of basement amphibolites.(3) The c. 745–710 Ma magmatic rocks were formed in a continental rift setting.(4) The underplating of mantle plume-derived magmas is proposed.

Numerous geothermal resources of medium to low temperature have been reported in southern China. Suichuan County is one of the regions where thermal manifestations are abundant. However, the study regarding the understanding of geothermal water sources, hydrochemical composition and fluid-rock interaction lacks behind. Therefore, this study has characterized the slightly acidic to slightly alkaline bicarbonate geothermal waters of medium-low temperature of the Suichuan area. Geothermal waters of the study area have been evaluated mainly as of HCO3-Ca-Na hydrochemical type with a maximum temperature of 80 °C. The results indicate the low hydrochemical concentration where HCO3− acts as a principal anion. Furthermore, the F− content in geothermal and two cold water samples have been found high with a maximum value of 13.4 (mg/L), showing high pH of 9.6 as well. Here, the compilation of deuterium and oxygen-18 isotopic data of geothermal waters showed a local precipitation origin with a recharge elevation ranging from 630–1000 m. The circulation depth and reservoir temperatures are estimated, explaining the deep thermal water behavior. Additionally, the estimation of saturation indices of various minerals shows the geothermal waters’ corrosive or scaling behavior. Subsequently, the geothermal water points in the study area represent a fracture convection formation pattern. Finally, by integrating conventional hydrochemistry along with isotopic data, and considering the geological framework, a conceptual genetic model of the Suichuan thermal ground waters has been discussed. Hydrochemistry and isotopic features along with a conceptual circulation model have been provided by the foundation towards the sustainable management of hydrothermal resources in Suichuan. Proper management policies and practices are required for further development of Suichuan hydrothermal waters.

Investigations of the geochemical compositions of geothermal water, as well as their movements and geneses, are of great significance for the exploration and exploitation of hydrothermal resources. In Zhongshan City, a southern city in Guangdong Province, large amounts of geothermal heat have been discovered. The results of investigations show that the hydrochemical types of geothermal water in the study area are Cl-Na·Ca and Cl-Na. H-O isotopes are basically near the atmospheric precipitation line, and the calculated recharge elevation of geothermal water ranges from 716 to 822 m, which is close to the altitude of the North Peak Mountain in Taishan City. The deep thermal storage temperature ranges from 95.32 to 149.71 °C, and the depth of the thermal cycle ranges from 2638.57 m to 4581.07 m. The genetic model of the geothermal water in this area is that, at favorable structural positions with satisfied water storage conditions, the mixture of atmospheric precipitation and seawater that circulates deep in Earth is heated by terrestrial heat flow under actions such as deep heat exchange and water–rock reactions to leach the salt, finally forming the highly mineralized geothermal water that uplifts out of the surface along faults and crops. The formation of the genetic model of geothermal water will provide a geological basis and technical support for the efficient development and utilization of geothermal resources in Zhongshan City and the coastal area of Southeast China.
