Rapid global population aging has led to a considerable increase in the number of people with dementia, which was estimated at 50 million by the World Alzheimer Report 2021 with an expected increase to 152 million by 2050. As diseases progress in older adults, significant resources are invested for treatment, with an estimated cost of […]
Sleep is a biological function necessary for vital functions, including memory, emotion, learning, metabolic regulation, cellular toxin removal, and neural development in humans [1]. It is crucial in maintaining survival, recovery, and energy conservation, which are important for good health and improved quality of life, while poor sleep has severe health implications as it interrupts […]
This study aimed to identify factors that significantly affect the behavioral intention of nursing staff to practice telenursing, applying the decomposed theory of planned behavior (DTPB) as the research framework. This cross-sectional survey study collected data from a valid sample of 203 responses from nurses from a regional hospital in Taipei City, Taiwan. The results of data analysis showed that nursing staff’s attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control toward telenursing correlated positively with behavioral intention to participate in telenursing. Decomposing the main concepts identified two significant predictive determinants that influence nurses’ behavioral intentions: (a) facilitating conditions (β = 0.394, t = 5.817, p = 0.000 < 0.001) and (b) supervisor influence (β= 0.232, t = 3.431, p = 0.001 < 0.01), which together explain 28.6% of the variance for behavioral intention. The results of this study indicated that support and encouragement from nursing supervisors are important factors affecting nurses’ intention to practice telenursing. Education and training, health policies advocacy and the provision of adequate facilitating technologies and recourses are important factors for improving intention to practice telenursing.

Background: Phthalates are widely used in consumer products, food packaging, and personal care products, so exposure is widespread. Several studies have investigated the association of phthalate exposure with obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension. However, little is known about the associations of phthalate exposure with sex, age, and menopausal status in metabolic syndrome (MetS). The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between 11 urinary phthalate metabolite concentrations and metabolic syndrome in adults. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 1337 adults aged 30–70 years from the Taiwan Biobank 2016–2020. Prevalence odds ratios (POR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using logistic regression and stratified by sex, age, and menopausal status. Results: Participants with MetS comprised 16.38%. Higher concentrations of MEP metabolites were associated with more than two- to three-fold increased odds of MetS in males and males ≥ 50 years (adj. POR Q3 vs. Q1 = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.01, 4.50; p = 0.047 and adj. POR Q2 vs. Q1 = 3.11, 95% CI: 0.13, 8.63; p = 0.029). When assessed by menopausal status, postmenopausal females with higher ∑DEHP concentrations had more than nine-fold higher odds of MetS compared with postmenopausal females with the lowest ∑DEHP concentrations (adj. POR Q3 vs. Q1 = 9.58, 95% CI: 1.18, 77.75; p = 0.034). Conclusions: The findings suggest differential associations between certain phthalate metabolites and MetS by sex, age, and menopausal status.

Background Health risks associated with phthalate esters depend on exposure level, individual sensitivities, and other contributing factors. Purpose This study employed artificial intelligence algorithms while applying data mining techniques to identify correlations between phthalate esters [di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, DEHP], lifestyle factors, and disease outcomes. Methods We conducted exploratory analysis using demographic and laboratory data collected from the Taiwan Biobank. The study developed a prediction model to examine the relationship between phthalate esters and the risk of developing certain diseases based on various artificial intelligence algorithms, including logistic regression, artificial neural networks, and Bayesian networks. Results The results indicate that phthalate esters exhibited a greater impact on bone and joint issues than heart problems. We observed that DEHP metabolites, such as mono(2-carboxymethylhexyl) phthalate, mono-n-butyl phthalate, and monoethylphthalate, leave higher residue in females than in males, with statistically significant differences. Monoethylphthalate levels were lower in individuals who exercised regularly than those who did not, indicating statistically significant differences. Conclusions This study’s findings can serve as a valuable reference for clinical nursing assessments regarding diseases related to osteoporosis, arthritis, and musculoskeletal pain. Medical professionals can enhance care quality by considering factors beyond patients' essential physical assessment items. Trial Registration: This study was registered under NCT05892029 on May 5, 2023, retrospectively.
