Information

Prof. Dr. Markus Fiedler received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on information and communication technology from Saarland University in 1998. Since then, he has been employed at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH); he became a senior lecturer within teletraffic systems in 2000, docent in 2006, and professor of teletraffic systems in 2011. He is now with the Dept. of Technology and Aesthetics (DITE) as a researcher involved in the main area and internationalisation responsible for the media technology programs (digital visual production, digital sound production, and design of digital and immersive experiences). Starting from teletraffic-related questions (such as dimensioning of communication links), his research was extended to user-perceived Quality of Experience (QoE) of applications and services. He has been strongly involved in the development of the QoE area as co-organiser of three Dagstuhl seminars and one Dagstuhl Perspectives workshop, and he is specifically interested in sustainability issues related to ICT and QoE. He has been active in the research profile BigData@BTH, with a specific interest in the application of machine learning to the QoE domain, and the KKS synergy project ViaTecH, with a specific focus on timing within Virtual Reality (VR) systems. In teaching, he is passionate about quality issues and evaluation as a natural part of design processes for sound, image, and immersive experiences (towards “QoE By Design“).
