With the increasing capacity of large-scale electric vehicles, it's necessary to stabilize the fluctuation of charging voltage in order to achieve improvement of lithium-ion battery lifecycle, and the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) including superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) and lithium-ion battery is introduced, which is significant to reduce the high frequency discharge cycles and to manage the state of charge (SOC) for batteries with an optimized integration scheme based on power grading approach. With the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) method for battery SOC estimation and the extended Kalman filter (EKF) method for battery internal resistance estimation, the approach for estimating the lithium-ion battery state through adaptive unscented Kalman filter (AUKF) is derived. The AUKF approach takes the form of iterative loop to estimate system parameters and state, so the system strategy has well adaptive characteristics. Experimental results illustrate that the SOC estimation based on the proposed optimized approach for lithium-ion battery in HESS can achieve the well robustness and fast convergence.
The key to control the range extender generation system is to improve the efficiency and reduce the emissions of the electric vehicle (EV). In this paper, based on the purpose of efficiency optimization, both engine and generator are matched to get a public high efficiency region, and a partial power following control strategy was presented. The engine speed is constant in the defined power range, so the output power regulation of the range extender is only realized by the adjustment of the torque of the generator. Engine speed and generator torque were decoupled. An improved proportional resonant (PR) controller is adopted to achieve fast output power regulation. In order to ensure the response characteristics of the control system and to improve the robustness, the impacts on system’s characteristics and stability caused by PR controller and parameters in the inner-current loop were analyzed via frequency response characteristics. A pre-Tustin with deviation compensation is proposed for PR controller’s discretization. A stable and robust power following control method is obtained for the range extender control system. Finally, simulation and experiment of the proposed control strategy illustrated its feasibility and correctness.

An improved rotor position observer based on sliding mode control was proposed to eliminate estimation error and harmonic ripples for PMSM sensorless control. A multi-proportional resonant filter was designed instead of a low-pass filter to filter out the specific harmonics of back EMF. The improved filter can solve the phase delay problem caused by a low-pass filter, eliminate the rotor angle compensator, simplify the system structure, and effectively suppress the system chattering. Then, a fractional normalized phase-locked loop was adopted to calculate the speed and rotor position, further eliminating the influence of noise. Compared with the traditional sliding mode control and the improved sliding mode control, the improved sliding mode observer can effectively suppress the back EMF chattering and reduce the speed estimation error. The correctness and effectiveness of the proposed improved sliding mode observer were verified through the simulation model and experimental platform of PMSM sensorless control.
Direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generators (DD-PMSGs) have been widely adopted in wind power generation systems owing to their distinctive advantages, including direct-drive operation, high power density, and superior energy conversion efficiency. However, the high power density of the generator inevitably leads to heat generation issues, which affect the reliability of the generator. To address the thermal issues in the 4.5 MW direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (DD-PMSG), this paper proposes a novel forced air-cooling ventilation system. Through comprehensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and fundamental thermodynamic analysis, the cooling performance is systematically evaluated to determine the optimal width of the stator ventilation ducts. Furthermore, based on the temperature distribution of the stator and rotor, three optimization schemes for non-uniform core segments are proposed. By comparing the ventilation cooling performance under three structural schemes, the optimal structural scheme is provided for the generator. Finally, the feasibility of the heat dissipation scheme and the accuracy of the simulation calculations are verified by fabricating a prototype and setting up an experimental platform. The above conclusions and research results can provide some reference for the design of the core ventilation ducts structure of subsequent wind turbines.
The rotor overtemperature caused by losses is one of the important issues for the high-speed electrical machine. This paper focuses on the rotor loss analysis and CFD-thermal coupling evaluation for 105 kW, 36,000 r/min HSPMSM. Three types of sleeve materials as carbon-fiber, Titanium alloy, and stainless steel are introduced in this paper, researching the effects of sleeve conductivity, thickness and rotational speed on rotor eddy current loss, balancing rotor mechanical strength. The sleeve made of titanium alloy material with a thickness of 3.5 mm is chosen to effectively suppress the rotor eddy current loss in high-speed motors in the paper. The air friction loss becomes significant based on the PM motor at high rotational speed. The roundness error of the rotor sleeve has the important impact on the air friction loss of the rotor and the rotor temperature of the motor, which leads to the over temperature of the rotor. Therefore, based on the CFD fluid model, the influence of roundness error, cooling parameters, rotational speed and temperature boundary on the air friction loss is studied in detail, and the expression is summarized to provide reference for estimating the air friction loss. According to the rotor structure in this paper, the optimal cooling air inlet velocity is 10 m/s. Finally, the loss separation method is used to obtain the air friction loss measurement results. The accuracy of the finite element calculation results of air friction loss is verified through the experimental data. The temperature rise of the HSPMSM was also measured with 5.5% error. In this paper, the conclusion and analysis method could provide some reference for the research of the rotor structure and the improvement of the efficiency of HSPMMs.
