The aim of this study is to enhance the coating adhesion strength by optimizing the air plasma application parameters. Air-plasma treatment parameters were selected as working distance, treatment speed and pressure, while material type parameters were determined as low mean density fiberboard (MDF-1) and high-density mean fiberboard (MDF-2). Due to the low adhesion strength in water-based paint applications compared to other types of paint, water-based paint was applied to these samples. Taguchi orthogonal design and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were applied to investigate the significant parameters on the adhesion strength. Desirability function was used to determine the optimum factor levels. According to experimental design results, working distance, treatment speed, and pressure values of 8.82 mm, 60 mm/s, and 1.10 bar were determined as optimum plasma treatment parameters for MDF-1, respectively. Corresponding values for MDF-2 were 9.19 mm, 60 mm/s, and 1.06 bar. The improvement in adhesion strength was evaluated as 22% increase for MDF-1 and 16% increase for MDF-2.

This study aims examining the opinions of the students of Vocational School of Forestry and Forest Industry Engineering Department of Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, about their computer aided design education, general development and future. The survey form was applied during the fall semester of the academic year 2020-2021 in the online. Surveys from 60 students were taken into assessment with first year and second year students for both departments. The survey form had questions about demographic characteristics of the students, their opinions on their education and their professional future. During the analysis, first the variables were coded, a database was created and assessed with MS Excel software. As the result; demographic characteristics of the students, opinions of Forest Industry Engineering Department students on Forest Industry Engineering Department and Vocational School of Forestry Students on their departments, opinions of the students about computer aided design programs were evaluated. In addition, the sectors in which the students want to work in after graduating are evaluated and interpreted.
The bending test is a good indicator of wood characterization, including compression, tension, and shear stresses. Therefore, many studies have been published on bending tests for wood. Its heterogeneous structure, anisotropic behavior during the physical and mechanical tests, and anatomical and chemical differences due to species and growing area make the characterization difficult. Accordingly, research has focused on mathematical models and simulation programs for predicting material characteristics. More data on using many wood species in such models or programs still need to be collected. This study aimed to eliminate these deficiencies for two softwood species grown in Türkiye. In this context, three- and four-point bending tests were performed on 5656 samples from fir (Abies spp.) and black pine (Pinus nigra) species that were collected from 13 regions. A nonlinear material model was generated from the load-deformation data for both species, and the results were found in agreement regarding the bending features of both softwood species. The results show that nonlinear numerical modeling could predict the bending results with significant rates (min. 94%). Additionally, bending characteristics such as limits of proportionality (LOP), and elastic potential were found and compared between and within the species, regions, and test methods. Load-deformation curves showed that the LOP ranged between 40% and 60% of the maximum load, which was higher than the theoretical approach in the standards.
Mechanical behavior properties were investigated for cabinet-type cabinet doors in kitchen furniture and drawer bottoms and joints used as storage areas under load in accordance with relevant standards (BS EN 16122). In the first stage, values physical and mechanical for particle board (PB) and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) were determined. According to the test results in the second stage, it was determined that the doors assembled using a torque of 1.3 N/m in the door tests were less deformed than those assembled with 0.63 N/m. According to the finite element analysis and real test results carried out in the final stage, it has been determined that the vertical loading analysis applied on the doors coincides with the real experiments by 85%, horizontal loading by 84%, and slam shut by 50%. The doors didn’t pass the final stage durability test in real experiments, and the analysis results revealed that the deformation areas were the same as for real experiment. In the drawers; strength 85%, displacement 84%, and slam shut 94% overlap are represented. The drawers completed the durability test in real experiments, and in the analysis, it was determined that the deformation that occurred under high stresses was in the same areas.

In this study, it was aimed to reveal three-dimensional visual interpretation skills in the example of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Faculty of Forestry students, one of the most preferred Forest Industry Engineering programs in Turkey. To that end, findings on how the three-dimensional thinking, perception and interpretation skills of Technical Drawing module students taught in the First Term of the Forest Industry Engineering Department changed when they completed the module at the end of the term is chiefly examined. It was aimed to observe the change by questioning the students with two different questionnaires at the beginning and end of the term. Visual figure questions from the two- and three-dimensional perception, comparison and matching of objects, as well as questions assessing their interest in the module and computers were adressed. At the end of the term, the percentage of students who provided the correct answer to the question of matching the views of the parts whose figures were provided increased by approximately 11% from 37.04% to 48.15%. The rate of students who answered all 3D views correctly (i.e. 9/9) in the question in which the 3D view of the object was evaluated from different angles was 63% at the beginning of the term, while this rate increased to 88.88% at the end of the term. The findings revealed that, in the evaluation made at the end of the term, the level of success of the first year university students in thee-views and three-dimensional assessment questions increased compared to the beginning of the term.
