Lauro Souza is a researcher at the Instituto de Pesquisa Pelé Pequeno Príncipe and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Biotechnology Applied to Child and Adolescent Health at Faculdades Pequeno Príncipe. He holds a degree in Biological Sciences (2001) and earned his Master’s (2005) and PhD (2008) in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Paraná. His expertise lies in biochemistry, with a strong emphasis on analytical chemistry and chemical derivatization methods, particularly for the structural analysis of carbohydrates, lipids, and natural products. He is experienced in a range of analytical techniques, including liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. His research focuses on two main areas: Phytochemical prospection for drug discovery—evaluation of plant extracts in experimental models (e.g., cancer) to identify active compounds; Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)—development of extraction, analysis, and quantification methods (mainly chromatography-based) to monitor serum/plasma levels of antibiotics, antifungals, and anticancer agents in pediatric patients, as well as investigations into drug metabolism. He is a member of the Brazilian Society for Mass Spectrometry and the Brazilian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
