Dae Young Kim received his Ph.D. from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1987 under the direction of Prof. D. Y. Oh. He worked at Dyson Perrins Laboratory (Prof. Sir Jack E. Baldwin), Oxford University (1987–1988), and Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co. Korea as a Researcher. In 1991, he was appointed assistant professor at Soonchunhyang University. He was promoted to Full Professor of Chemistry in 2002, and has received the Best Paper Awards (2010, 2015) from the Korean Chemical Society, and the Aldrich Award (2013) from Sigma-Aldrich Korea. His current research interests are the development of novel and efficient synthetic methodologies, based on the design of chiral organocatalysts and transition-metal catalysts.
