Using traditional weight-loss tests, as well as different electrochemical techniques (potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), we investigated the corrosion-inhibition performance of 2,2′-(1,4-phenylenebis(methanylylidene)) bis(N-(3-methoxyphenyl) hydrazinecarbothioamide) (PMBMH) as an inhibitor for mild steel in a 1 M hydrochloric acid solution. The maximum protection efficacy of 0.0005 M of PMBMH was 95%. Due to the creation of a protective adsorption layer instead of the adsorbed H2O molecules and acidic chloride ions, the existence of the investigated inhibitor reduced the corrosion rate and increased the inhibitory efficacy. The inhibition efficiency increased as the inhibitor concentration increased, but it decreased as the temperature increased. The PMBMH adsorption mode followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with high adsorption-inhibition activity. Furthermore, the value of the ∆Gadso  indicated that PMBMH contributed to the physical and chemical adsorption onto the mild-steel surface. Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) helped in the calculation of the quantum chemical parameters for finding the correlation between the inhibition activity and the molecular structure. The experimental and theoretical findings in this investigation are in good agreement.

Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) was conducted to weld a sheet of an aluminum alloy (AA5754-H114) to a commercial sheet of pure copper (Cu) having (2 mm) thickness. It was performed at various tool rotating speeds (800, 1000, and 1250 rpm), times of plunging (30, 60, and 90 sec) using a tool pin geometry or profile (straight cylindrical, threaded cylindrical with the flute, and tapered cylindrical). The welding process parameters were optimized based on the Taguchi method relying upon the design of experiment (DOE). The used sheet is made of “aluminum alloy” overlapped upon copper sheets. The results manifested that the “maximum” shear forces were found at the best or optimum parameters of welding: (1000 rpm) rotational speed and (90 sec) plunging time when using the straight cylindrical pin profile. The Pareto chart of standardize influences of the tensile-shear outcomes elucidated that the time of plunging was the higher influential parameter than the other welding parameters, such as the speed of rotation and the profile of the pin.

The current study investigates the effects of friction stir processing (FSP) parameters on the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of the alloy AA6061-T6. The FSP’s big-area stir zone is where the fine-equiaxed grains are created, and it was found that the size of the grain of every pass is homogenous there. The design of experiment (DOE) method has been used to identify the key variables affecting the final tensile strength. FSP was accomplished using threaded cylindrical pin profiles with three varying rotational speeds (930, 1100, and 1460 rpm) and various transverse speeds (23, 50, and 79), and the tilt angle of the tool was also set at 2°. The optimum FSP parameters were two passes at 1460 rpm and 79 mm/min with these values. It was found that the stir zone’s center has a greater microhardness value of 235 kg/mm2 at three passes and that this value decreased toward the thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ), HAZ, and base metal (107 kg/mm2). The result showed that the FSPed sample has a higher tensile strength at two passes than at one or three passes. Also, it was obtained from the ANOVA analysis results that travel speed is the most effective factor, giving 51,46 % of the contribution feature pursued by No. of Pass (22,56 %), followed by rotational speed (19,49 %)

Research is still being done to find solutions to the wear, abrasion and moving mechanical parts problems that persist. Production of moving and stationary parts, particularly those made of Al-Si alloy, due to their characteristics, which need for constant development. In this work, self-lubricating nano-additives were used in the manufacturing process. It was used powder metallurgy technique to fabricate the base alloy and hybrid nanocomposites. Next, by mechanically mixing (MoS2) and Boron nitride (BN) in nanometer scale-level quantities as hybrid additives, 2, 4, and 6wt% were added. This was followed by pressing the mixture into a 10 mm-diameter steel mold without the use of heat. After pressing, the resultant samples are sintered at a temperature of up to 560 C0 in a tube furnace that is kept free of oxygen. Argon, an inert gas that inhibits reactions, is used to protect all of these samples. The generated samples underwent to wear and abrasion tests, the resulting grains underwent analysis, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study the surface microstructure and topography of worn samples. The results showed that the parts made with hybrid nano-additives have higher friction and wear resistances than that of the base (Al-Si)alloy. They also exhibited refine microstructure, high hardness values, and less weight loss during wear tesing. However, the addition percentage must not go above 6%. Friable phases develop in the microstructure, and it cannot pass wear testing.
