Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) have been rapidly developed, which, inevitably, renders that human-driven and autonomous vehicles share the road. Thus, trajectory prediction is an important research topic, which helps each CAV to efficiently follow a Human-Driven Vehicle (HV). In a wider scope, trajectory prediction, also, helps to improve the throughput of traffic flow and enhance its stability. To realize the trajectory prediction of Connected and Automated Vehicles to Human-Driven Vehicles, a car-following model, which is based on trajectory data, was established. Adding deep neural networks and an Attention mechanism, this paper established a data-driven car-following model, based on CNN-BiLSTM-Attention for CAV, to predict trajectory, by referring to the modeling idea of the traditional car-following model. The trajectory data in the next-generation-simulation (NGSIM) datasets that match the car-following characteristics were selected. In addition, noise-reduction pre-processing of the trajectory data was performed, to make it match the actual car-following situation. Experiments, for selecting the optimal structure of the model and the method of trajectory prediction, were carried out. The data-driven car-following models, such as LSTM, GRU, and CNN-BiLSTM, were selected for comparative analysis of trajectory prediction. The results show that the CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model has the smallest MAE and MSE as well as the largest R2. The CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model has the highest accuracy in vehicle-trajectory prediction. The model can, effectively, realize vehicle-trajectory prediction and provide a theoretical basis for vehicle-trajectory-based velocity guidance of Human-Driven Vehicles. In the future, the model can, also, provide the theoretical basis for Connected and Automated Vehicles, to make car-following decisions in mixed traffic flow.

In car‐following procedure, some distances are reserved between the vehicles, through which drivers can avoid collisions with vehicles before and after them in the same lane and keep a reasonable clearance with lateral vehicles. This paper investigates characters of vehicle operating safety in car following state based on required safe distance. To tackle this problem, we probe into required safe distance and car‐following model using molecular dynamics, covering longitudinal and lateral safe distance. The model was developed and implemented to describe the relationship between longitudinal safe distance and lateral safe distance under the condition where the leader keeps uniform deceleration. The results obtained herein are deemed valuable for car‐following theory and microscopic traffic simulation.

Traffic-flow prediction plays an important role in the construction of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). So, in order to improve the accuracy of short-term traffic flow prediction, a prediction model (GWO-attention-LSTM) based on the combination of optimized attention mechanism and long short-term memory (LSTM) is proposed. The model is based on LSTM and uses the attention mechanism to assign individual weight to the feature information extracted via LSTM. This can increase the prediction model’s focus on important information. The initial weight parameters of the attention mechanism are also optimized using the grey wolf optimizer (GWO). By simulating the hunting process of grey wolves, the GWO algorithm calculates the hunting position of the grey wolf and maps it to the initial weight parameters of the attention mechanism. In this way, the short-time traffic flow prediction model is constructed. The traffic flow data of the trunk roads in the center of Qingdao (China) are used as the research object. Multiple sets of comparison models are set up for prediction analysis. The results show that the GWO-attention-LSTM model has obvious advantages over other models. The prediction error MAE values of the GWO-attention-LSTM model decreased by 7.32% and 14.35% on average compared with the attention-LSTM model and LSTM model. It is concluded that the GWO-attention-LSTM model has better model performance and can provide effective help for traffic management control and traffic flow theory research.

Timely and accurate traffic prediction information is essential for advanced traffic management system (ATMS) and advanced traveler information system (ATIS). Because of the characteristics of nonlinearity, nonstationarity, and randomness, short-term traffic flow prediction could be still a challenging task. In this study, a hybrid short-term traffic flow multistep prediction method is proposed by combining the variational mode decomposition (VMD) algorithm and long short-term memory (LSTM) model. Firstly, the VMD algorithm is employed to decompose the original traffic flow data into a series of intrinsic mode function (IMF) components. Secondly, different LSTM models are established to predict different IMF components. For each prediction model, one-step to three-step predictions are carried out. Finally, the component prediction results are aggregated to obtain the final traffic flow multistep prediction values. The prediction performance of the proposed hybrid model is investigated using inductive loop data measured from the north-south viaduct expressway in Shanghai. The experiment results show that (1) VMD algorithm could effectively avoid the problems of endpoint effects and modal aliasing, and the decomposition effect is better than empirical mode decomposition algorithm and wavelet decomposition algorithm; (2) among all the involved methods, the proposed hybrid model is more effective and robust in extracting the trend information, which has the best multistep prediction performance.

In order to realize the lane-changing maneuver of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV), a lateral controller based on model predictive control is developed with the three degrees of freedom vehicle dynamic model. Then the controller is synthesized to track the reference trajectory fitted by the quintic Bézier curve. The controller is validated by MATLAB/CarSim under different road adhesion conditions and driving speeds. Results show that for different road adhesion conditions and driving speeds, the controller does not need to adjust the control parameters and can continuously correct the deviation from the expected trajectory. During the tracking process, the front wheel angle, front wheel angle increment, centroid side deflection angle, and front wheel side deflection angle are kept within the limited constraint range. The established control algorithm has good control robustness and tracking driving stability. The research can provide a theoretical basis and technical support for lane-changing safety and control of CAV.

Driver behavior and intention recognition affects traffic safety. Many scholars use the steering wheel angle, distance of the brake pedal, distance of the accelerator pedal, and turn signal as input data to identify driver behaviors and intentions. However, in terms of time, the acquisition of these parameters has a relative delay, which lengthens the identification time. Therefore, this study uses drivers’ EEG (electroencephalograph) data as input parameters to identify driver behaviors and intentions. The key to the driving intention recognition of EEG signals is to reduce their noise. Noise interference has a significant influence on EEG driving intention recognition. To substantially denoise EEG signals, this study selects wavelet transform theory and wavelet packet transform technology, collects the EEG signals during driving, uses the threshold noise reduction method on EEG signals to reduce noise, and achieves noise reduction through wavelet packet reconstruction. After the wavelet packet coefficients of EEG signals are obtained, the energy characteristics of the wavelet packet coefficients are extracted as input to the Bayesian theoretical model for driver behavior and intention recognition. Results show that the maximum recognition rate of the Bayesian theoretical model reaches 82.6%. Early driver behavior and intention recognition has important research significance for traffic safety and sustainable traffic development.
