To enhance the friction and wear properties of 40Cr steel’s surface, CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings with various Ti contents were prepared using laser cladding. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to characterize the phase composition, microstructure, and chemical composition of the samples. The findings demonstrated that the CoCrFeMnNiTix HEA coatings formed a single FCC phase. Fe2Ti, Ni3Ti, and Co2Ti intermetallic compounds were discovered in the coatings when the molar ratio of Ti content was greater than 0.5. The EDS findings indicated that Cr and Co/Ni/Ti were primarily enriched in the dendrite and interdendrite, respectively. Ti addition can effectively enhance the coating’s mechanical properties. The hardness test findings showed that when the molar ratio of Ti was 0.75, the coating’s microhardness was 511 HV0.5, which was 1.9 times the hardness of the 40Cr (256 HV0.5) substrate and 1.46 times the hardness of the CrCrFeMnNi HEA coating (348 HV0.5). The friction and wear findings demonstrated that the addition of Ti can substantially reduce the coating’s friction coefficient and wear rate. The coating’s wear resistance was the best when the molar ratio of Ti was 0.75, the friction coefficient was 0.296, and the wear amount was 0.001 g. SEM and 3D morphology test results demonstrated that the coating’s wear mechanism changed from adhesive wear and abrasive wear to fatigue wear and abrasive wear with the increase in Ti content.

Due to its unique single-phase multivariate alloy characteristics and good low-temperature mechanical properties, CoCrFeNiMn high entropy alloy (HEA) has attracted the interest of many researchers in recent years. In this paper, to improve the wear resistance of Q235 alloy steel surface, CoCrFeNiMnSnx HEA coatings were prepared on the surface of Q235 steel via laser cladding. X-ray diffractometry, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectrometry were used to determine the microstructure and chemical composition. The research findings revealed that the CoCrFeNiMn HEA coatings were formed from a single FCC phase. As the Sn content in the coating increased, a new MnNi2Sn phase formed. Microhardness and friction and wear results showed that when the mole content of Sn was 0.2, the hardness of the CoCrFeNiMn HEA coating was increased by approximately 45%, the friction coefficient decreased by 0.168, and the wear loss decreased by 16.6%. Three-dimensional noncontact morphology and SEM results revealed that the wear mechanisms of CoCrFeNiMn HEA coatings were abrasive wear, delamination wear and a small amount of oxidative wear under dry friction conditions, whereas the friction mechanisms of CoCrFeNiMnSn0.2 HEA coatings were primarily abrasive wear and oxidative wear.

For the analysis on the deformation of flexible ring gears in spur gear pairs, the complete flexible ring is discretized, and the boundary condition is added to the connecting points to develop a calculation method for the flexible deformation. The ovality index is used to describe the deformation degree of flexible ring gears, then the influences of ring-gear width and the spalling defects on the flexible deformation of ring gears are discussed. The result shows that the flexible deformation of ring gears is caused by the gear pair meshing force, and the deformed shape is close to an ellipse. In the single-tooth meshing interval of gear pairs, the main form of deformation is being stretched, and while in the double-tooth meshes, the main form is bending deformation. When the width of the ring gear rims is increased, the flexible deformation of the ring gears can be effectively suppressed, and the vibration amplitude of the gear pairs can be reduced. Additionally, when there is a localized spalling fault on gear pairs, the sudden changes in the deformation of flexible ring gears are generated by the shock of the meshing force. Finally, through the finite element analysis model and the experiment, the mathematical model of gear pairs with flexible rings is confirmed.

This study explores the relationship between rock fragment size distribution and disc cutter breaking efficiency of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) using discrete element simulations of indentation tests. Fragmentation behavior was analyzed under varying joint dip angles, joint spacings, and confining pressures, and cutter efficiency was evaluated by correlating fragment gradation parameters with specific energy (SE). The results show that cracks preferentially propagate along the weak joint interfaces, demonstrating that joint geometry controls stress redistribution and fracture evolution. With increasing joint dip angle, crack density and crushed zone extent first increase and then decrease. Reduced joint spacing enhances crack interaction and coalescence, resulting in lower energy demand. In contrast, increasing confining pressure suppresses tensile crack development, restricts crack opening displacement, and promotes shear-dominated failure, leading to finer fragments and higher SE. Strong linear correlations (R² > 0.80) between gradation parameters and SE indicate that fragment size distribution quantitatively reflects variations in energy dissipation during cutter and rock interaction.

The fault diagnosis of the gearbox is primarily based on the analysis of the harmonic response. However, the generation mechanism of the harmonic response of the gear pair is still not distinctly explained in a healthy gearbox. Therefore, this paper is dedicated to establishing a dynamic model of the gearbox for this issue. In this model, the contact force of the bearing and the meshing stiffness of the gear pair are determined by the Hertz theory and the potential energy method, then the shaft motion is used as the connection to establish the coupling relationship between the gear pair and the bearing. After this dynamic model is confirmed by experiments and existing models, the coupling relationship inside the gearbox and the harmonic response of the gear pair are studied using this model. The result demonstrates that a closed control loop is formed due to the vibration transmission between the gear pair, the bearing and the shaft, and there is a strong coupled vibration between the gear pair and the bearing in the gearbox. Due to the generation of the center distance error, misalignment angle and disorganized meshing process of the gear pair, the meshing stiffness is altered, which excites the harmonic response of the gear pair. When the speed of the gearbox is increased, although the vibration amplitude of the gearbox is increased, the system predominantly vibrates at the fundamental frequency, and the harmonic of the gear pair is also shifted to the low frequency band.

The increasing demand for ultra-precision components with complex surface geometries has stimulated the development of advanced deterministic polishing technologies. This investigation explores the impact of external vibration on the rheological properties of polishing slurry and the material removal performance during the vibration-assisted force rheological polishing (VFRP) process. The mechanical response of the vibrating workpiece surface under various vibration conditions was numerically analyzed using ANSYS Fluent 14.5. The results demonstrated a strong correlation between the surface pressure imposed on the workpiece and the applied vibration amplitude as well as vibration frequency. Experimental results validate that the introduction of vibration promotes a reversible rheological transition of the slurry from a fluid-predominant state to a solid-resembling structure, which facilitates abrasive particle confinement and subsequently enhances polishing capability. The reliance of stainless-steel sheet polishing performance on vibration parameters was evaluated. With the optimized combination of polishing speed (40 rpm), vibration frequency (80 Hz), and amplitude (0.35 mm), the 30 min polishing process yielded a material removal rate of 68.1 nm/min and reduced the average surface roughness (Sa) from 80 nm to 7.1 nm. The acquired results provide constructive direction for optimizing the VFRP process and promoting its application in high-efficiency, ultra-precision surface polishing.
