This qualitative study aimed to explore the current status, practices, and challenges of Internet of Things (IoT) implementation and to develop an IoT framework for Industry 4.0 in Malaysia. Industry 4.0 enhances a company’s manufacturing competitiveness and efficiency. However, the implementation of Industry 4.0 in Malaysian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is still in its early stages. Five participants from three different SMEs were selected for online interviews and a focus group. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the interviews were conducted online and lasted about 30 to 45 min. The data collected from the interviews were analyzed through thematic analysis and used to validate the literature review and to identify gaps in existing frameworks. The IoT framework was developed through a focus group of experts. This study found that the implementation of Industry 4.0 is relatively low in Malaysian manufacturing SMEs. SMEs are facing various challenges, including the need for education and training, budget constraints, and a lack of experience and knowledge among workers. This study found that the positive impact of IoT implementation included improved internal communication, reduced errors, and enhanced product quality and safety. In addition, this study resulted in the development of an IoT framework for SMEs in Malaysia.

The objective of this paper is to discuss the information and communication technology (ICT) implementation, an initiative of teaching and learning for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) lecturers and students during the COVID-19 pandemic era due to the lack of physical and practical learning activities such as handling tools, safety measure, execute machine in an emergency, conduct the material as per manual stated, last but not least functional and operational check and assessment conduct. This study employed a qualitative approach (i.e., document analysis). Data was collected from secondary sources by reviewing TVET reports, webpage, organizational structures, and news bulletins, which are observed and analyzed. The results indicated that most TVET institutions were struggling to deliver and assess practical skills training. Instead of focusing on the practical assessment method, most TVET institutions are remoting to theoretical coursework, and re-structuring the program with outcome-based education as one of the alternative solutions. The results also revealed the different approaches used by TVET institutions by relating them to several case studies. By understanding their aims and intentions, the COVID-19 pandemic indirectly contributes to the development of ICT in TVET, and therefore the technologies of teaching and learning are not left behind.

The Biomedical Engineering Maintenance Services (BEMS) is a comprehensive maintenance program that ensures the safety and reliability of medical devices. Significant and crucial devices are identified and prioritized for best practice prior to the equipment life cycle to mitigate functional problems, alarmed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) underlying the modernization agenda. A model of multi‐criteria decision‐making (MCDM) to prioritize medical devices according to their criticality is presented in this paper, with the utilization of quality function deployment (QFD) and fuzzy logic in the development of the model through a quantitative survey of experts from all regions in Malaysia. As a result, a customized version of the Asset Criticality Assessment (ACA) is developed and is recommended for use in more than 144 Ministry of Health (MOH) hospitals. Subsequently, real data of four selected devices are pulled from the Asset and Services Information System (ASIS) to demonstrate a relevant and comparable end‐result using the QFD and fuzzy logic. In essence, the key contribution of the customized ACA model is that it assesses a promising evaluation with a broader range on both the performance of medical devices and the appropriate asset replacement choices. This leads to an effective maintenance strategy for each device and the modernization of reliability computation metrics.

This paper depicts the effect of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) on business intelligence (BI) system implementations in Malaysian context by applying a Delphi study. The results of this study provides insight to the most important CSFS which assist the Malaysian public sector organizations to organize their resources through understanding those CSFs that are most likely to have an impact upon the implementation of the BI system. The modified Delphi study was selected to conduct this study. Result of first round of Delphi study revealed that the user access is insignificant factor for the success of BI system implementation. Moreover, overall finding of Delphi study highlighted the continuous management support, scalable and flexible system, BI team skill, resource allocation, organization culture, and coordination between IT and business units as most important CSFs for implementation of BI system.
