Cyber-attacks pose increasing challenges in precisely detecting intrusions, risking data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This review paper presents recent IDS taxonomy, a comprehensive review of intrusion detection techniques, and commonly used datasets for evaluation. It discusses evasion techniques employed by attackers and the challenges in combating them to enhance network security. Researchers strive to improve IDS by accurately detecting intruders, reducing false positives, and identifying new threats. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques are adopted in IDS systems, showing potential in efficiently detecting intruders across networks. The paper explores the latest trends and advancements in ML and DL-based network intrusion detection systems (NIDS), including methodology, evaluation metrics, and dataset selection. It emphasizes research obstacles and proposes a future research model to address weaknesses in the methodologies. The decision tree, known for its speed and user-friendliness, is proposed as a model for detecting result anomalies, combining findings from a comparative survey. This research aims to provide insights into building an effective decision tree-based detection framework.

IoT-based smart e-waste management is an emerging field that combines technology and environmental sustainability. E-waste is a growing problem worldwide, as discarded electronics can have negative impacts on the environment and public health. In this paper, we have proposed a smart e-waste management system. This system uses IoT devices and sensors to monitor and manage the collection, sorting, and disposal of e-waste. The IoT devices in this system are typically embedded with sensors that can detect and monitor the amount of e-waste in a given area. These sensors can provide real-time data on e-waste, which can then be used to optimize collection and disposal processes. E-waste is like an asset to us in most cases; as it is recyclable, using it in an efficient manner would be a perk. By employing machine learning to distinguish e-waste, we can contribute to separating metallic and plastic components, the utilization of pyrolysis to transform plastic waste into bio-fuel, coupled with the generation of bio-char as a by-product, and the repurposing of metallic portions for the development of solar batteries. We can optimize its use and also minimize its environmental impact; it presents a promising avenue for sustainable waste management and resource recovery. Our proposed system also uses cloud-based platforms to help analyze patterns and trends in the data. The Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average, a statistical method used in the cloud, can provide insights into future garbage levels, which can be useful for optimizing waste collection schedules and improving the overall process.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has revolutionized the networking landscape by offering programmable control and optimization of network resources. However, SDN architecture’s inherent flexibility and centralized control expose it to new security risks. In this paper, we have presented a comprehensive study focused on the security implications associated with the control plane of SDN, which serves as a critical layer responsible for its network orchestration. We have addressed some pressing security concerns in SDN deployments by examining control plane vulnerabilities and explicit attacks. Through extensive analysis, we have investigated various control plane attacks. By meticulously exploring each attack vector, we have shed light on its mechanisms, potential impact and countermeasures. Furthermore, we have emphasized the interdependencies between the control plane, application plane, and data plane, highlighting how compromises in the control plane can propagate and impact the entire network infrastructure. Our research contributes to a deeper understanding of the specific vulnerabilities within SDN, focusing on the control plane as the primary target. By providing insights into the security landscape of SDN, network administrators, researchers, and security practitioners can develop proactive defense strategies and fortify the security posture of SDN deployments. We have underscored the importance of integrating robust security mechanisms to safeguard the control plane and maintain the overall security of SDN architectures. Our comprehensive analysis of control plane attacks in SDN elucidates the evolving security challenges posed by the programmability and centralization of network control. By addressing these vulnerabilities, we have tried to pave the way for future researchers to develop effective security solutions and ensure SDN networks’ resilience and integrity.

Cloud computing has revolutionized data storage, processing, and access in modern data center operations. Conventional data centers use enormous amounts of energy for server operation, power supply, and cooling. The processors produce heat while processing the data and therefore increase the center’s carbon footprint, and the rising energy usage and carbon emissions caused by data centers pose serious environmental challenges. Under these circumstances, energy-efficient green data centers are being used as a phenomenal source of sustainable modernization. This study proposes the implementation of the Green Energy Efficiency and Carbon Optimization (GEECO) model for enhancing energy usage. Within the data center, the GEECO model dynamically adjusts workload distribution and task assignment to balance performance and manage service-level reconciliation. The ability to identify possibilities for energy optimization and carbon emission reduction is possible through real-time monitoring of energy usage and workload demand. The results revealed a considerable increase in energy efficiency, with significant decreases in energy usage and related costs. The GEECO model provides a significant improvement in energy consumption and carbon emission reduction for the different introduced scenarios. This model’s introduction to practical application would be made possible by these improvements in the quantitative results. The approach of this study also has a positive impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions. The resilience and practicality of the solution are also analyzed, highlighting the probability of widespread adoption and its associated improvements in the advancement of sustainable cloud computing.

Significant threats to ecological equilibrium and sustainable agriculture are posed by the extinction of animal species and the subsequent effects on farms. Farmers face difficult decisions, such as installing electric fences to protect their farms, although these measures can harm animals essential for maintaining ecological equilibrium. To tackle these essential issues, our research introduces an innovative solution in the form of an object-detection system. In this research, we designed and implemented a system that leverages the ESP32-CAM platform in conjunction with the YOLOv8 object-detection model. Our proposed system aims to identify endangered species and harmful animals within farming environments, providing real-time alerts to farmers and endangered wildlife by integrating a cloud-based alert system. To train the YOLOv8 model effectively, we meticulously compiled diverse image datasets featuring these animals in agricultural settings, subsequently annotating them. After that, we tuned the hyperparameter of the YOLOv8 model to enhance the performance of the model. The results from our optimized YOLOv8 model are auspicious. It achieves a remarkable mean average precision (mAP) of 92.44% and an impressive sensitivity rate of 96.65% on an unseen test dataset, firmly establishing its efficacy. After achieving an optimal result, we employed the model in our IoT system and when the system detects the presence of these animals, it immediately activates an audible buzzer. Additionally, a cloud-based system was utilized to notify neighboring farmers effectively and alert animals to potential danger. This research’s significance lies in its potential to drive the conservation of endangered species while simultaneously mitigating the agricultural damage inflicted by these animals.

The advent of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) represents a significant evolution in monetary systems, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and resilience in financial transactions. This research presents a comprehensive CBDC framework that integrates centralized databases with decentralized blockchain technology, aimed at strengthening monetary oversight and tackling challenges such as money laundering and financial irregularities. By employing blockchain’s immutable ledger, the proposed system supports secure and transparent digital transactions, thereby fostering trust and accountability in the financial ecosystem. Furthermore, the framework promotes financial inclusion by offering various transaction methods, such as internet-based payments, smart cards, and offline One-Time Password (OTP) systems. This diverse approach helps users in areas with limited internet access, effectively bridging critical gaps in digital accessibility and ensuring that everyone can participate in the digital economy. Through prototype development and empirical evaluation using tools like Ethereum, Geth, and web3.js, the study explores CBDC’s potential for sustainable economic development, offering insights into practical applications and future scalability.
