The commercial fifth-generation (5G) wireless communications networks have already been deployed with the aim of providing high data rates. However, the rapid growth in the number of smart devices and the emergence of the Internet of Everything (IoE) applications, which require an ultra-reliable and low-latency communication, will result in a substantial burden on the 5G wireless networks. As such, the data rate that could be supplied by 5G networks will unlikely sustain the enormous ongoing data traffic explosion. This has motivated research into continuing to advance the existing wireless networks toward the future generation of cellular systems, known as sixth generation (6G). Therefore, it is essential to provide a prospective vision of the 6G and the key enabling technologies for realizing future networks. To this end, this paper presents a comprehensive review/survey of the future evolution of 6G networks. Specifically, the objective of the paper is to provide a comprehensive review/survey about the key enabling technologies for 6G networks, which include a discussion about the main operation principles of each technology, envisioned potential applications, current state-of-the-art research, and the related technical challenges. Overall, this paper provides useful information for industries and academic researchers and discusses the potentials for opening up new research directions.

With the availability of internet technology and the low-cost of digital image sensor, enormous amount of image databases have been created in different kind of applications. These image databases increase the demand to develop efficient image retrieval search methods that meet user requirements. Great attention and efforts have been devoted to improve content-based image retrieval method with a particular focus on reducing the semantic gap between low-level features and human visual perceptions. Due to the increasing research in this field, this paper surveys, analyses and compares the current state-of-the-art methodologies over the last six years in the CBIR field. This paper also provides an overview of CBIR framework, recent low-level feature extraction methods, machine learning algorithms, similarity measures, and a performance evaluation to inspire further research efforts.

The unexpectedly high number of deaths caused by inadequate medical care is, to date, considered as a serious problem. Besides, the ratio of elderly people who require continuous care is rising. Therefore, a patient monitoring system (PMS) also known as remote patient monitoring (RPM) using the latest Internet of Things (IoT) technology becomes a viable solution that can provide efficient healthcare from a remote distance. PMS monitors timely physiological signals of a patient’s health and can reduce the healthcare costs of treatment significantly. In PMS, different health and vital signs issues such as body temperature, heart rate, sleep monitoring, fall detection, and blood pressure can be checked effectively in real-time. To this end, this paper provides a clear vision of electronic healthcare assistance based on PMS and explores the applications of IoT that allow efficient medical services in healthcare systems. In particular, the objective of this paper is to provide a review of PMS, current research, and the challenges associated with this area. Besides, the essential services that can be offered by PMS for monitoring human activities are also discussed. Furthermore, the communication networks and protocols that are required to endure efficient healthcare systems are explained. Finally, this paper discusses several research challenges and open issues that can be investigated for further work. Overall, this paper offers valuable insights for both industry professionals and academic researchers, exploring potential avenues for new research directions.

The rapid advancements in wireless technology and digital electronics have led to the widespread adoption of compact, intelligent devices in various aspects of daily life. These advanced systems possess the capability to sense environmental changes, process data, and communicate seamlessly within interconnected networks. Typically, such devices integrate low-power radio transmitters and multiple smart sensors, hence enabling efficient functionality across wide ranges of applications. Alongside these technological developments, the concept of the IoT has emerged as a transformative paradigm, facilitating the interconnection of uniquely identifiable devices through internet-based networks. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of sensor technologies, detailing their integral role within IoT frameworks and examining their impact on optimizing efficiency and service delivery in modern wireless communications systems. Also, it presents a thorough review of sensor technologies, current research trends, and the associated challenges in this evolving field, providing a detailed explanation of recent advancements and IoT-integrated sensor systems, with a particular emphasis on the fundamental architecture of sensors and their pivotal role in modern technological applications. It explores the core benefits of sensor technologies and delivers an in-depth classification of their fundamental types. Beyond reviewing existing developments, this study identifies key open research challenges and outlines prospective directions for future exploration, offering valuable insights for both academic researchers and industry professionals. Ultimately, this paper serves as an essential reference for understanding sensor technologies and their potential contributions to IoT-driven solutions. This study offers meaningful contributions to academic and industrial sectors, facilitating advancements in sensor innovation.

The recent increase in the number of videos available in cyberspace is due to the availability of multimedia devices, highly developed communication technologies, and low-cost storage devices. These videos are simply stored in databases through text annotation. Content-based video browsing and retrieval are inefficient due to the method used to store videos in databases. Video databases are large in size and contain voluminous information, and these characteristics emphasize the need for automated video structure analyses. Shot boundary detection (SBD) is considered a substantial process of video browsing and retrieval. SBD aims to detect transition and their boundaries between consecutive shots; hence, shots with rich information are used in the content-based video indexing and retrieval. This paper presents a review of an extensive set for SBD approaches and their development. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are comprehensively explored. The developed algorithms are discussed, and challenges and recommendations are presented.

Tchebichef polynomials (TPs) and their moments are widely used in signal processing due to their remarkable performance in signal analysis, feature extraction, and compression capability. The common problem of the TP is that the coefficients computation is prone to numerical instabilities when the polynomial order becomes large. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed to compute the TP coefficients (TPCs) for higher polynomial order by combining two existing recurrence algorithms: the three-term recurrence relations in the n-direction and x-direction. First, the TPCs are computed for x, n = 0, 1, ... , (N/2) - 1 using the recurrence in the x-direction. Second, the TPCs for x = 0, 1, ... , (N/2) - 1 and n = (N/2), (N/2) + 1, ... , N - 1 based on n and x directions are calculated. Finally, the symmetry condition is applied to calculate the rest of the coefficients for x = (N/2), (N/2) + 1, ... , N - 1. In addition to the ability of the proposed algorithm to reduce the numerical propagation errors, it also accelerates the computational speed of the TPCs. The performance of the proposed algorithm was compared to that of existing algorithms for the reconstruction of speech and image signals taken from different databases. The performance of the TPCs computed by the proposed algorithm was also compared with the performance of the discrete cosine transform coefficients for speech compression systems. Different types of speech quality measures were used for evaluation. According to the results of the comparative analysis, the proposed algorithm makes the computation of the TP superior to that of conventional recurrence algorithms when the polynomial order is large.
