Dr. Giancarlo Perrone has a degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Bari in 1992. In 1993, he obtained a license to practice the Agronomist. Since 2001, he has been a Researcher at ISPA-CNR in Bari. The research conducted by Dr. Perrone mainly relates to the study and characterisation of toxigenic fungi responsible for the accumulation of mycotoxins in various food products, their epidemiological, biochemical, and molecular characterisation, and he also worked on some antagonistic microorganisms and their metabolites useful as Biopesticides. He is an expert in the ecology, morphology, and molecular characterisation of toxigenic fungi, mainly Aspergillus and Penicillium. He was involved in several national and European projects and collaborated with universities and research companies in the agro-food such as Syngenta and Bayer Crop Protection SpA. Since 2010, he has been a member of the ICFM (International Commission of Food Mycology) and, since 2011, he has been secretary of the ICPA (International Commission of Penicillium and Aspergillus).
