In response to emergencies, it is critical to investigate how to deliver emergency supplies efficiently and securely to disaster-affected areas and people. There is no doubt that blood is deemed one of the vital relief supplies, and ensuring smooth blood delivery may substantially alleviate subsequent impacts caused by the disaster. Taking red blood cell products as the research object, this work proposes a four-echelon blood supply chain model. Specifically, it includes blood donors, blood donation houses, blood centres, and hospitals. Furthermore, numerical analysis is provided to test the feasibility of blood collection and distribution schemes and conduct sensitivity analysis to test the impacts of the relevant parameters (e.g., apheresis donation proportion of red blood cells (RBCs), distance between blood donors and blood facilities, and times of blood donation) on the scheme. This research provides some scientific and reasonable support for decision makers and managerial implications for emergency departments and contributes to the study of emergent blood supply chain.

This study introduces a dual-channel supply chain including a supplier and a retailer with capital constraints, in which the retailer can apply for the trade credit financing from the supplier. This work investigates the effects of two typical behaviors, free riding behavior and consumer switching behavior, on inventory, ordering, and sales effort decisions in decentralized and centralized decision situations with stochastic demand. In order to achieve the optimal performance in the centralized system, this research designs a partial buyback contract to coordinate the supply chain. Furthermore, numerical analysis is provided to test the feasibility of the model. The results indicate that in the dual-channel supply chain with the above two behaviors, (1) the optimal sales effort level, optimal order quantity, the optimal offline, and online profits under the centralized decision-making are more than those under decentralized scenario, except for the optimal inventory level; (2) the increase of the offline consumer switching rate will lead to the reduction of the offline order quantity and the offline expected profit and raise the online inventory level and the online expected profit; (3) the increase of the online consumer switching rate will raise the offline order quantity and the offline expected profit but has no significant impact on the online inventory level and the online expected profit; (4) the increase of the free riding coefficient of the supplier, no matter whether in decentralized or centralized systems, will reduce the offline sales effort level, the offline expected profit, and the online expected profit and raise the inventory level. Finally, this work provides some managerial implication.

This study applies the partnership quality theory to investigate how the perceived information sharing quality from express delivery service providers can affect logistics service performance for online shoppers in terms of partnership quality (including trust and commitment) and willingness to share information from E-commerce enterprises. Based on 421 samples of E-commerce enterprises in China, the results of structural equation modelling revealed that perceived information sharing quality affects partnership trust, which in turn affects the partnership commitment and willingness to share information. Partnership quality and willingness to share information affect the perceived performance of the express delivery services. Surprisingly, information sharing quality does not play a role in commitment. This study provides a theoretical contribution to E-commerce supply chain research in constructing a cognition, affective, behavior, and conative performance model for further research.

Deteriorating environmental conditions and frequent environmental incidents have urged corporations' execution on corporate environmental responsibility (CER). For maintaining a positive CER, buyers have considered the performance of their suppliers' CER when the buyers plan to sign or renew a contract with their suppliers. However, it is still under‐examined how the mechanism works between supplier CER and buyer repurchase intention (BRPI). This study explores the mediating effects of relationship quality between supplier CER and BRPI. Based on 209 samples of Chinese buyers, the results show that supplier CER has a significant direct effect on buyer satisfaction and trust (the two components of relationship quality), and the relationship quality mediates the effects of supplier CER on the BRPI. This study provides insights into relationship marketing through crosslink CER with the relationship quality theory to explain the mechanism of how supplier CER benefits buyer purchase intention.

An extended warranty is an additional service in the market that manufacturers and retailers provide for their customers. In this study, we investigate the optimal extended warranty strategies in a supply chain with a single manufacturer and a single retailer, and consider two single-channel models (the retailer solely provides the service, and the manufacturer solely provides the service) and a dual-channel model (both the retailer and the manufacturer provide the service). Using an analytical model, we demonstrate the optimal pricing decisions for the manufacturer and the retailer under these models and compare the profits of the manufacturer, retailer and supply chain. We find that among the models, customers enjoy a lower extended warranty price with a mild condition when the manufacturer provides the extended warranty service. However, the total profits of the supply chain are usually larger when the retailer sells the extended warranty. Through numerical experiments, we further investigate the influence of customer preferences, and find that the total profits of the supply chain increase if more customers purchase extended warranties from the retailer in the dual-channel model.

With the rapid growth of E-commerce business, logistics service, especially the last-mile distribution, has become one bottleneck, which leads to the rise of coordination complexity of logistics service supply chain (LSSC). This research, based on Stackelberg’s game theory, studies the coordination of a new three-echelon LSSC consisting of an E-commerce mall, an express company, and a terminal distribution service provider and investigates the optimal solutions and profits for each party within the semicentralized and centralized LSSC alliances, respectively. To accomplish this, it firstly shows that the three-echelon LSSC can lead to global optimum under the centralized decision-making scenario and then deploys the contract coordination schemes, including revenue sharing, cost sharing, and unit delivery price contracts, in three semicentralized alliances, so as to achieve the same performance of the centralized decision-making scenario, in which each party in the LSSC can achieve the win-win situation. Finally, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed coordination strategies. This study enriches the coordination theory in the field of LSSC and provides managerial insights for decision makers in LSSC.

Bidder collusion in reverse auctions is a pervasive phenomenon that leads to a series of problems for buyers and their supply chains. This work aims to conduct a hazard analysis on a first-price sealed-bid reverse auction with bidder collusion by applying colored timed Petri nets, in which places and transition nodes represent bidding resources and activities. This work successfully dissects the collusion process, quantifies the harm of collusion, and compares the harm levels. The results of the simulation disclose two main causal factors for bidder collusion information asymmetry and strong relationship between strong bidders. This study also identifies the situations where there is a strong relationship between strong bidders. Based on these findings, several recommendations are proposed to reduce the harm of the ring game in a real reverse auction process. Thus, this study helps the buyers to take control of reverse auctions.

Supply chain financing is an efficient and effective channel for small and medium-sized enterprises to obtain the short-term capital and keep the sustainability of the supply chain. This study focuses on the optimal ordering strategy of the retailer with limited capital and random demand of customers, and combines the ACC payment model with supply contracts. The numerical analysis supported the feasibility of the model. Finally this work provides some possible issues for future research.

With the rapid development of e-commerce, logistics distribution has become the bottleneck of its development. It is urgent to study how to optimize the cooperation between e-commerce platforms and logistics service providers. Based on Stackelberg game theory, this research first studies the decision making of two-stage logistics service supply chains consisting of the e-commerce mall and the logistics service provider without cooperative distribution, in which decentralization and centralization are analyzed, respectively. Then, it is extended to the decision making of three-stage logistics service supply chains consisting of e-commerce malls, express delivery companies, and terminal distributors. The results show that the profit, sales volume, and logistics service effort of the centralized decision-making system are higher than those of the decentralized decision-making system, regardless of the two-stage or three-stage logistics service supply chain. Therefore, it is vital to formulate a reasonable profit distribution scheme based on revenue-sharing contract to achieve the cooperation among the partners of logistics service supply chain, so as to achieve a win-win situation in which all of their profits increase. Finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the results, and some issues are proposed for future research.

Recently, environmental issues have raised an increasing amount of attention, which has led to a quick development of green supply chains. Particularly, the collection and disposal of unwanted medications (UMs) in households have been an increasingly important research topic. However, there is little work on building an effective reverse logistics (RL) system for collecting UMs. For stimulating more collections of UMs, an RL system with a points-exchange incentive scheme and advertising is proposed in this study. Based on Game Theory, this research takes the lead in investigating the effects of these two strategies in a two-echelon supply chain composed of a pharmaceutical manufacturer and a retailer. For the game theoretic analysis, four games are established: non-cooperative, retailer as the Stackelberg leader, manufacturer as the Stackelberg leader, and centralized games. There are three situations in each game, namely, the advertising-effective region, exchange-effective region, and joint-effective region. The optimal strategies of advertising and points-exchange proportion for both members are identified. In both joint-effective and exchange-effective regions, a preferable decentralized supply chain structure is the Nash policy, whereas it does not matter who leads the game in the advertising-effective region. Cooperation is crucial in the model, which results in a larger collection and more profit of the total supply chain. Finally, this study provides managerial implications and some suggestions for future research.

An auction is a crucial resource allocation mechanism for a supply chain and includes the purchasing price at the winner's bid value, eligible suppliers in winning bidder sets, and business payment terms. A multi-object auction usually involves two types of mechanisms: sequential and combinatorial auctions (CAs). A literature review reveals that the research on CAs still has some treasures waiting to be discovered. Using the framework of Petri nets, this paper employs timed and colored tokens representing every bidder's bidding data and applies transition nodes to execute bidding rules such as combinatorial discriminate analysis, bidder's bid decision-making, and the auctioneer's winner decision-making. Based on the contribution of workflows in Petri net theory, we present a case-based CA Petri net model and a sequential auction Petri net model. We compare the supply chain coordination performance of these two types of auctions and reach the conclusion under given assumptions. This paper is an attempt to apply Petri net theory to auctions and provides valuable insights for organizers to establish scientific and efficient bidding processes.

Improper disposal of household unwanted medications (UMs) is an emergency problem around the world that adversely affects the sustainability of the environment and human’s health. However, the current disposal practices, mainly based on advertising and collecting status, are unsatisfactory in most countries and regions. Thus, some scholars proposed an alternative disposal practice that is to provide incentives to customers. This study aims to compare a Single Model (advertising only) with a Joint Model (advertising with take-back pricing) in a two-echelon reverse supply chain (RSC) that is composed of one disposer and one collector. In each model, four games (non-cooperative, collector as the Stackelberg leader, disposer as the Stackelberg leader, and cooperative) were established in order to identify the optimal pricing and advertising strategies for both members. The results of the study indicate that there is a Pareto dominant range for Joint Model compared to Single Model, whereas Single Model has no Pareto improvement in any games. Furthermore, in non-cooperative games of Joint Model, it is better to implement the leader-follower structure rather than simultaneous movement structure. Additionally, it is verified that the cooperative game is feasible, which leads to the cooperation between the disposer and the collector, and the extra profit from the cooperation can be shared based on the Nash bargaining game. However, in Single Model, it is better for the disposer to act as a channel leader and the collector figures the follower.

Improper disposal of unwanted medications can be very costly and harmful to the environment and people's health. To facilitate safe disposal and remove excessive household storage of medicines, this paper proposes an integrated reverse supply chain (RSC) model with a pharmaceutical company, a recycler, retailers, customers and government. We investigates the impact of different categories of unwanted medications and government's subsidy, penalty and publicity investment on the RSC profit and the collection rate of expired medications. The numerical results show that with the growth of the percentage of unexpired medications, the collection rate of expired medications remains unchanged, whereas the profit of entire RSC increases. Governments' regulations and supervision have a crucial influence on the decision-making of pharmaceutical RSC. There exists a trade-off between government's subsidies, penalties and publicity investment to collect expired medications.

We consider a real-time emergency evacuation problem that seeks to compute a set of rapid evacuation routes in a building. Given a three-dimensional geometric structure of the evacuation network, an emergency evacuation route is a sequence of movements of people away from the threat or actual occurrence of a hazard (such as a fire, a hidden bomb) to a safe exit in the network. In such a network each room/crossing/exit in the building is designated as a node and the corridors/staircases/links between the rooms are edges. The evacuation times assigned to the edges are normally distributed random variables. This stochastic routing problem subject to deadline constraints is NP-hard. We provide a new pseudo-polynomial-time dynamic programming algorithm to solve this problem. Based on this algorithm, we construct two types of approximation algorithm, namely a fully polynomial-time approximation scheme providing "almost-optimal" solutions and a fully polynomial-time approximately feasible scheme yielding a best "almost feasible" solution. We present a case study and results of computational experiments to illustrate the working and efficacy of the proposed solution methods, respectively.Department of Logistics and Maritime Studie

The nestedness property has become an increasingly important means for devising efficient algorithms for network location problems. There have been attempts to explore the nestedness property of network location problems with some special cases of the convex ordered median objectives. However, there is little research on the nestedness property for those problems with the concave ordered median objectives. This paper constructs a tree network T and shows that the nestedness property cannot hold for the concave ordered median problem, which fills a gap in the research on the nestedness property. Finally, the authors pose an open problem on identifying the nestedness property for the continuous strategic ordered median problem.
