Fault diagnosis of a thermal system under varying operating conditions is of great importance for the safe and reliable operation of a power plant involved in peak shaving. However, it is a difficult task due to the lack of sufficient labeled data under some operating conditions. In practical applications, the model built on labeled data under one operating condition will be extended to such operating conditions. Data distribution discrepancy can be triggered by variation of operating conditions and may degenerate the performance of the model. Considering the fact that data distributions are different but related under different operating conditions, this paper proposes a hierarchical deep domain adaptation (HDDA) approach to transfer a classifier trained on labeled data under one loading condition to identify faults with unlabeled data under another loading condition. In HDDA, a hierarchical structure is developed to reveal effective information for final diagnosis by layer-wisely capturing representative features. HDDA learns domain-invariant and discriminative features with the hierarchical structure by reducing distribution discrepancy and preserving discriminative information hidden in raw process data. For practical applications, the taguchi method is used to obtain the optimized model parameters. Experimental results and comprehensive comparison analysis demonstrate its superiority.
Lots of similarity-based algorithms have been designed to deal with the problem of link prediction in the past decade. In order to improve prediction accuracy, a novel cosine similarity index CD based on distance between nodes and cosine value between vectors is proposed in this paper. Firstly, node coordinate matrix can be obtained by node distances which are different from distance matrix and row vectors of the matrix are regarded as coordinates of nodes. Then, cosine value between node coordinates is used as their similarity index. A local community density index LD is also proposed. Then, a series of CD-based indices include CD-LD-k, CD*LD-k, CD-k and CDI are presented and applied in ten real networks. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of CD-based indices. The effects of network clustering coefficient and assortative coefficient on prediction accuracy of indices are analyzed. CD-LD-k and CD*LD-k can improve prediction accuracy without considering the assortative coefficient of network is negative or positive. According to analysis of relative precision of each method on each network, CD-LD-k and CD*LD-k indices have excellent average performance and robustness. CD and CD-k indices perform better on positive assortative networks than on negative assortative networks. For negative assortative networks, we improve and refine CD index, referred as CDI index, combining the advantages of CD index and evolutionary mechanism of the network model BA. Experimental results reveal that CDI index can increase prediction accuracy of CD on negative assortative networks.

Accurate health status prediction of lithium-ion batteries is crucial for enhancing the safety and reliability of battery management systems. However, due to the complexity of the battery degradation process and the influence of different working conditions, existing approaches are inadequate in feature extraction and cross-domain prediction. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a health status prediction approach based on multi-scale spatio-temporal features and hierarchical domain alignment. The proposed approach utilizes residual multi-scale convolution and variational attention-based bidirectional long and short-term memory networks to jointly model local fine-grained variations and global evolutionary trends during battery degradation. Furthermore, a hierarchical domain alignment mechanism is employed to mitigate data distribution shifts across different working conditions by layer-wise discrepancy minimization and adversarial feature regularization in a complementary manner. Finally, uncertainty estimation based on Bayesian inference is incorporated to provide a credibility measure for the capacity prediction results. Experimental results demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the proposed approach for capacity prediction under diverse transfer tasks and show strong cross-condition generalization and application potential.

Domain adaptation (DA) approaches have received significant attention in industrial cross-domain fault diagnosis. However, the scarcity of sufficient labeled fault data, particularly under varying loading conditions and harsh operational environments, can give rise to distinct label spaces between two domains, thereby impeding the application of DA-based diagnosis methods. In this paper, we propose a novel dual-weight domain adversarial network (DWDAN) for diagnosing partial domain faults of feedwater heater system in a large-scale power unit, where the target label space is a subset of the source domain. Firstly, domain adversarial network with an instance-based feature learning strategy is constructed to capture domain-invariant and class-discriminative features hidden in raw process data, thereby enhancing feature extraction and generalization abilities of fault diagnosis. Furthermore, a dual-stage reweighted induction module is designed to quantify the contribution of samples from both class-level and sample-level for selective adaptation. This module can automatically eliminate outlier fault categories in the source domain and facilitates alignment of feature distributions for shared fault categories. Comprehensive experiments conducted on the feedwater heater system of a 600 MW coal-fired generating unit demonstrate the outstanding performance of DWDAN.
