Bubble size contains important indication information that is closely related to flotation production conditions and process indicators. However, bubble images often have low contrast, noise, and many other shortcomings, making foam segmentation a difficult problem that the existing segmentation methods cannot solve. In this article, an improved watershed algorithm based on optimal labeling and edge constraints is proposed. Three algorithms are designed to obtain different initial tags, and then the extracted content of different tags is fused to obtain the combined foreground tag. To reduce the offset of the segmentation line, the edge operator is applied to extract the bubble boundary, and the boundary priori condition is used as a constraint to correct the segmentation line. Finally, the optimal segmentation line is obtained by fusing foreground markers and external constraints. Industrial experiments show that this method is effective and has a higher accuracy than the other methods. The average value and variance of rand index (RI) are 92.88% and 0.69, respectively.

Accurate and timely foam grade prediction plays an important role in the flotation foam industry process. However, the information between foam characteristic series and foam grade series at different sampling times often does not match, making the prediction result lagging behind. A multistep fusion transformer (MSFT) model is designed in this article. First, we extract multiple froth time series as input to correlate feature information and grade information under multiple time series, then, a self-attention structure is designed to fuse at multiple scales, which enhances the degree of information correlation under different time series, finally, the information matrix is passed through the fully connected layer to obtain the final prediction result. Compared with the existing froth grade network recurrent neural networks (RNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit, Transformer, Enc–Dec (RNN), feature reconstruction–regression, Siamese time series and difference (LSTM), and FlotationNet models, the MSFT model has reduced the baseline by 30.3%, 30.3%, 30%, 66.9%, 30%, 45.8%, 55.2%, and 52.5%, respectively, among all indicators.

Strong retardation of ultrashort optical pulses, including their deceleration and stoppage in the form of Bragg solitons in a cascaded Bragg grating (BG) structure, is proposed. The manipulations of the pulses are carried out, using nonlinear effects, in a chirped BG segment which is linked, via a defect, to a uniform grating. The storage of the ultrashort pulses is shown to be very robust with respect to variations of the input field intensity, suggesting the feasibility of storing ultrafast optical pulses in such a structure. Physical estimates are produced for the BGs written in silicon.

The phase, amplitude, speed, and polarization, in addition to many other properties of light, can be modulated by photonic Bragg structures. In conjunction with nonlinearity and quantum effects, a variety of ensuing micro- or nano-photonic applications can be realized. This paper reviews various optical phenomena in several exemplary 1D Bragg gratings. Important examples are resonantly absorbing photonic structures, chirped Bragg grating, and cholesteric liquid crystals; their unique operation capabilities and key issues are considered in detail. These Bragg structures are expected to be used in wide-spread applications involving light field modulations, especially in the rapidly advancing field of ultrafast optical signal processing.

Optical display quality can be degraded by the appearance of moiré pattern occurring in a display system consisting of a basic matrix superimposed with a functional structured optical layer. We propose in this paper a novel pseudo-random arranged color filter array with the table number arranged with an optimal design scenario. We show that the moiré pattern can be significantly reduced with the introduction of the special color filter array. The idea is tested with an experiment that gives rise to a substantially reduced moiré pattern in a display system. It is believed that the novel functional optical structures have significant impact to complex structured display system in general and to the autostereoscopic and integrated display systems in particular.
