In emergency situations, such as earthquakes, landslides and other natural disasters, the terrestrial communications infrastructure is severely disrupted and unable to provide services to terrestrial IoT devices. However, tasks in emergency scenarios often require high levels of computing power and energy supply that cannot be processed quickly enough by devices locally and require computational offloading. In addition, offloading tasks to server-equipped edge base stations may not always be feasible due to the lack of infrastructure or distance. Since Low Orbit Satellites (LEO) have abundant computing resources, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have flexible deployment, offloading tasks to LEO satellite edge servers via UAVs becomes straightforward, which provides computing services to ground-based devices. Therefore, this paper investigates the computational tasks and resource allocation in a UAV-assisted multi-layer LEO satellite network, taking into account satellite computing resources and device task volumes. In order to minimise the weighted sum of energy consumption and delay in the system, the problem is formulated as a constrained optimisation problem, which is then transformed into a Markov Decision Problem (MDP). We propose a UAV-assisted airspace integration network architecture, and a Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient and Long short-term memory (DDPG-LSTM)-based task offloading and resource allocation algorithm to solve the problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the solution outperforms the baseline approach and that our framework and algorithm have the potential to provide reliable communication services in emergency situations.
With the development of computer technology, computational-intensive and delay-sensitive applications are emerging endlessly, and they are limited by the computing power and battery life of Smart Mobile Devices (SMDs). Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a computation model with great potential to meet application requirements and alleviate burdens on SMDs through computation offloading. However, device mobility and server status variability in the multi-server and multi-task scenario bring challenges to the computation offloading. To cope with these challenges, we first propose a parallel task offloading model and a small area-based edge offloading scheme in MEC. Then, we formulate the optimization problem to minimize the completion time of all tasks, and transform the problem into a deep reinforcement learning-based offloading scheme by Markov decision approach. Furthermore, we present a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) approach for obtaining the offloading strategy. Experimental results demonstrate that the DDPG- based offloading approach improves long-term performance by at least 19% in ultra-low latency, efficient usage of servers, and frequent mobility of SMDs over traditional strategies.

This paper investigates the multi-part collaborative task offloading with multiple servers in mobile edge computing (MEC) systems by considering server overload and long-term system performance. Our goal is to achieve the optimal user experience within the range of the network operator’s affordable cost. To this end, we design a two-layer computation offloading framework based on the multi-part offloading mode and the collaborations among small cell base station (SBS) servers. Furthermore, a multi-object constrained optimization problem is formulated, which jointly optimizes user association, channel allocation, and multi-part collaborative task offloading. To solve this problem, we propose a Genetic and Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (GADDPG)-based computation offloading scheme, where the long-term system performance is considered. Numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed GADDPG-based computation offloading scheme outperforms other methods in effectively solving the server overload and guarantees long-term system performances while ensuring the best user experience.
With the rapid development of 5G and 6G communications in recent years, there has been significant interest in space–air–ground integrated networks (SAGINs), which aim to achieve seamless all-area, all-time coverage. As a key component of SAGINs, flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) have been widely used in the agriculture and transportation sectors in recent years. Reliable communication in SAGINs requires efficient routing algorithms to support them. In this study, we analyze the unique communication architecture of FANETs in SAGINs. At the same time, existing routing protocols are presented and clustered. In addition, we review the latest research advances in routing algorithms over the last five years. Finally, we clarify the future research trends of FANET routing algorithms in SAGINs by discussing the algorithms and comparing the routing experiments with the characteristics of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Fog nodes in the vicinity of IoT devices are promising to provision low-latency services by offloading tasks from IoT devices to them. Mobile IoT is composed by mobile IoT devices, such as vehicles, wearable devices, and smartphones. Owing to the time-varying channel conditions, traffic loads, and computing loads, it is challenging to improve the Quality of Service (QoS) of mobile IoT devices. As task delay consists of both the transmission delay and computing delay, we investigate the resource allocation (i.e., including both radio resource and computation resource) in both the wireless channel and fog node to minimize the delay of all tasks while their QoS constraints are satisfied. We formulate the resource allocation problem into an integer nonlinear problem, where both the radio resource and computation resource are taken into account. As IoT tasks are dynamic, the resource allocation for different tasks are coupled with each other and the future information is impractical to be obtained. Therefore, we design an online reinforcement learning algorithm to make the suboptimal decision in real time based on the system’s experience replay data. The performance of the designed algorithm has been demonstrated by extensive simulation results.
