Susana Frases has a degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidad de Alicante (1994–1998), a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Universidad Miguel Hernandez (1999–2004), and a post-doctorate from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2004–2009). She worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO-RJ). She is currently an Associate Professor at the Carlos Chagas Filho Biophysics Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and serves as the head of the Fungal Biophysics Laboratory (IBCCF-UFRJ). She was the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (Biophysics)—CAPES Concept 7 (2019–2022). She has experience in Microbiology, with an emphasis on Mycology. She is a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, as well as a Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ) and a CNPq Productivity Fellow 1D.
