Peatlands are more likely to be affected by intense precipitation and soil erosion, thus requiring modifications for stabilized soil and subgrade protection. This experimental study aimed to find a suitable pavement type using fly ash, an unutilized byproduct from coal burning processes, for peatland areas with a low bearing capacity. We designed lightweight concrete specimens using 15% fly ash substitution to be incorporated into rigid pavement construction. The concrete quality was assessed through compressive and flexural strength tests performed at the ages of 7, 14, and 28 days in order to shorten the project durations and prevent further traffic delay. The obtained results suggested that the substitution of fly ash in 15% of the lightweight concrete mixture can be taken into account to achieve a mixture of a lightweight concrete that meets the general specification criteria for cement-treated subbases (CTSBs). Furthermore, the utilization of fly ash as a new material is considered substantial in managing existing waste-related environmental problems, as well as soil stabilization and subgrade protection problems for low-bearing-capacity soil areas.

Earthquake and tsunami preparedness is important to plan, especially in the earthquake and tsunami-prone areas, such as Banda Aceh. This study evaluates the tsunami evacuation routes' performance using the width of the road, travel time and th...
Following the development of transportation technology, steady road infrastructure is needed. The choice of construction type is a crucial point for the expected quality. Road construction consists of flexible and rigid pavement construction. Rigid pavement has higher durability and is produced from concrete, a strong, flexible, and fire-resistant material. Lightweight concrete, containing high amounts of pores, can be produced by using lightweight aggregate or a mixture of lightweight-coarse aggregate fulfilling the requirements for compressive and flexural strength. This study evaluated the compressive and flexural strength of lightweight concrete without coarse aggregate as a rigid pavement material. This study used specimens from type I Portland cement for compressive and flexural strength test, in 0.5 water-cement ratios and the specific gravity of 1.0. The result revealed a compressive strength value of 38.91 kg/cm2 and a flexural strength value of 1.32 MPa. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that lightweight concrete material fulfilled the general specification criteria for the compressive strength requirements of the cement-treated subbase (CTSB).
