Mirtazapine is an atypical antidepressant used in the management of insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety or panic disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder and migraines. It is used worldwide in pharmaceutical formulations alongside various excipients in its hemihydrate form. The objective of the study was the compatibility evaluation between MRTHH and ten pharmaceutical excipients. The presence of incompatibilities between the API and the selected excipients was evaluated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy performed on all pure samples and prepared mixtures at room temperature (23 ± 2 °C), as well as a complete thermal stress evaluation (TG—thermogravimetric/DTG—derivative thermogravimetric/DSC—differential scanning calorimetry). The results showed particularities for all analyzed mixtures, α-lactose monohydrate, starch, sorbitol, magnesium stearate, calcium lactate and magnesium citrate proving to be safe to use together with mirtazapine in binary mixtures at temperatures below 130 °C, while for polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 and aerosol precautions need to be considered at temperatures over 100 °C. The association of mirtazapine with D-mannitol or stearic acid proved to raise concerns even at room temperature, indicating possible interactions that may alter the chemical integrity of the active pharmaceutical ingredient and with it, its therapeutic effect. These findings should be taken into consideration during the selection of the technological procedures used in the manufacturing process of dosage forms that include mirtazapine alongside with any of these excipients so that unwanted chemical interactions could be avoided.

Methotrexate or amethopterin or 4-amino-N10-methyl pteroylglutamic acid is used for treating autoimmune diseases, as well as certain malignancies. Drug delivery systems, which are based on biopolymers, can be developed to improve the therapeutic and pharmacological properties of topically administered drugs. Biopolymers improve the therapeutic effect of drugs, mainly by improving their biodistribution and modulating drug release. This study presents the synthesis of membranes based on anionic polysaccharides and cationic polysaccharides for transdermal delivery of the active ingredient methotrexate, as well as a compatibility study between methotrexate and each of the components used in the prepared membranes. The obtained membranes based on different marine polysaccharides, namely κ-carrageenan and chitosan, for the release of the active ingredient methotrexate were characterized using techniques such as TG, FTIR, UV–Vis spectrophotometry, FTIR microscopy, water absorption capacity, water vapor permeability, and biodegradation rate. Following the studies, the membranes suitable for the transdermal release of the active substance were validated.

A widely used approach for synthesizing hydroxyapatite (HA) particles is the wet chemical precipitation method, favoured for its cost-effectiveness and straightforward process. Incorporating organic macromolecules with polar functional groups, such as COOH and OH, during synthesis can impact the properties of the resulting HA particles. These functional groups enhance the affinity for positively charged Ca2+ ions, promoting HA crystal nucleation in the solution. In this study, solutions at different concentrations of chitosan and sodium alginate are used as nucleation medium for the HA particles in order to decrease their particle size. The calcium and phosphate precursor solutions were adjusted to a pH of 12 and added to the polymer solution with a concentration varying from 5 to 10% w/v, reported to the stoichiometric mass of HA according to the synthesis reaction. After synthesis, the resulting powder was calcinated at 1000 °C. The effects that the polymers have on the properties of HA particles were monitored using SEM, FT-IR, EDAX, DLS, and TGA before and after the thermal treatment to see how the system evolves till crystallization of HA occurs. The largest decrease in average particle diameter—67.7%—was observed in the HA + Alg 10% sample, although a reduction in particle size was evident in all samples.

The current work focused on the water quality of the Bega and Timis rivers measured by two methods. One of them is the method by which the water was analyzed from a physical-chemical point of view, and the other aimed at quantifying the degree of water pollution by biological methods. In this sense, diatoms were used. In the study, samples of water and diatoms were taken using specific techniques from the Bega and Timis rivers, starting from near the area of their formation until near the border with Serbia. Four sampling points were chosen on the Timis River plus one sampling point on the Surgani River, which is a tributary of the Timis, and six sampling points on the Bega River. The points were chosen specifically, being located downstream of the major sources of pollution. In order to locate the points, information was collected from the studies carried out as part of an extensive monitoring that spanned several years. The abundance and diversity of diatom species were used to calculate the Biological Diatom Index (BDI) and the Saprobity Index (SI). These two indices provide valuable information about organic or heavy metal pollution of water bodies.
