Dr. Shanben Chen received his Ph.D. degree in 1991 from Harbin Institute of Technology. He was awarded the Distinguished Professor position, the Cheung Kong Scholar Program of the Ministry of Education of China & Li Ka Shing Foundation, Hong Kong, and engaged in Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2000. He is currently the director of the Intellgentized Robotic Welding Technology Laboratory, School of Material Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Chen’s research interests include intelligentized technologies for welding robots, intelligent control of welding dynamical process, modeling and control of complex systems, hybrid intelligence in intelligentized welding manufacturing systems, robust control of uncertain systems, and welding automation and advanced welding manufacturing. Dr. Chen is the former Chair of the Robotics & Automation Committee of the Chinese Welding Society (CWS) from 1996 to 2022. He has been a Senior member of IEEE since 1995. As the initiator, Dr. Chen organized and presided over a series of the International Workshop on Intelligentized Welding Manufacturing (IWIWM) every two years from 2017; and organized and presided over a series of International Conference on Robotic Welding, Intelligence and Automation (RWIA) every four years from 2002. As one of the Editors in Chief of TIWM, Dr. Shanben Chen founded Transactions on Intelligent Welding Manufacturing (TIWM）at Springer in 2017.
