Logo detection is a crucial task for industrial cyber-physical systems in smart cities, which relies on accurate and efficient analysis of urban environments. In this article, we proposed SC-YOLO, a robust logo detection framework that utilizes an optimized YOLO architecture with several key enhancements. Specifically, this framework encompasses a focus module that enables lossless downsampling and expands the input image channel to enrich feature representation. In addition, we incorporate an attention mechanism that enhances the model's ability to extract and locate critical regions in an image. To facilitate iteration and improve accuracy, we introduce the SIoU loss function that considers angle, distance, and shape costs between targets. The experiments on the LogoDet-3 K dataset demonstrate that SC-YOLO achieves an mAP of 70.84%, outperforming other state-of-the-art deep detection models, including YOLOv7. Overall, our proposed method has a wide range of potential applications in autonomous driving, intelligent transportation, smart city advertising research, and smart city commercial branding, enabling more efficient and safer smart cities.
Speech emotion recognition (SER) is an active research area in affective computing. Recognizing emotions from speech signals helps to assess human behaviour, which has promising applications in the area of human-computer interaction. The performance of deep learning-based SER methods relies heavily on feature learning. In this paper, we propose SCAR-NET, an improved convolutional neural network, to extract emotional features from speech signals and implement classification. This work includes two main parts: First, we extract spectral, temporal, and spectral-temporal correlation features through three parallel paths; and then split-convolve-aggregate residual blocks are designed for multi-branch deep feature learning. The features are refined by global average pooling (GAP) and pass through a softmax classifier to generate predictions for different emotions. We also conduct a series of experiments to evaluate the robustness and effectiveness of SCAR-NET which can achieve 96.45%, 83.13%, and 89.93% accuracy on the speech emotion datasets EMO-DB, SAVEE, and RAVDESS. These results show the outperformance of SCAR-NET.
Text classification is a major task of NLP (Natural Language Processing) and has been the focus of attention for years. News classification as a branch of text classification is characterized by complex structure, large amounts of information and long text length, which in turn leads to a decrease in the accuracy of classification. To improve the classification accuracy of Chinese news texts, we present a text classification model based on multi-level semantic features. First, we add the category correlation coefficient to TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) and the frequency concentration coefficient to CHI (Chi-Square), and extract the keyword semantic features with the improved algorithm. Then, we extract local semantic features with TextCNN with symmetric-channel and global semantic information from a BiLSTM with attention. Finally, we fuse the three semantic features for the prediction of text categories. The results of experiments on THUCNews, LTNews and MCNews show that our presented method is highly accurate, with 98.01%, 90.95% and 94.24% accuracy, respectively. With model parameters two magnitudes smaller than Bert, the improvements relative to the baseline Bert+FC are 1.27%, 1.2%, and 2.81%, respectively.

Bone age assessment is commonly used to determine the growth status and growth potential of children. In this paper, the bone age assessment is regarded as a fine-grained image classification problem as bone age assessment is usually performed on radiographs of the left hand. An end-to-end bone age assessment model was proposed. This model is composed of four parts: feature extractor, Region of Interest (ROI) selection subnet, guidance subnet, and assessment subnet. Feature extractor is implemented based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), ResNet50 was used to extract image features. ROI selection subnet is used to select multiple informative ROIs that contain representative images features in the radiograph. Guidance subnet can guide the ROI selection subnet to select ROI more appropriately. Assessment subnet is used for bone age assessment by utilizing the extracted image features. The proposed model can extract the most informative ROIs in the radiographs, and use these ROIs to improve the accuracy of bone age assessment. In this paper, the bone age assessment model is tested on a public data set. The experimental results show that the proposed bone age assessment model has the highest accuracy, and the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) reaches 6.65 months.
